By Paulo Coelho
When Father Antonio was asked if the road of sacrifice led to heaven, he replied:
‘There are two roads of sacrifice. The first is that taken by the man who mortifies his flesh and does penance because he believes that we are all damned. This man feels guilty and judges himself unworthy to be happy. He will get nowhere, because God does not live in guilt. The second is that taken by the man who, knowing that the world is not as perfect as we would all like, nevertheless prays, does penance and gives his time and labour to improving his surroundings. He understands that the word “sacrifice” comes from “sacro oficio” - holy work or service. The Divine Presence helps him all the time and he will be rewarded in Heaven.’

Confusion appears, then, when we have more than one desire/passion and we feel we will die trying to achieve them?
Love U
i like all what you write
i read alot of your books
i want to ask you can i translate what you write here to arabic and i will write that its your words in my blog?
My dearest Paulo,
How true it is , “true devotion only appears wehn we have only one desire and we will die if we cannot achieve it”
I am going to keep these words with me, and look at them often.
Thank you,
Love, love, love
Celia

What happens when we achieve our greatest desire, but then we lose it again? Will our devotion change or become more intense? Perhaps nothing is completely sustainable.
Dearest Paulo,
i feel uplifted thinking you will read this.
i really do love you :)
I want to add on to what leaf asked earlier, how do you cope with two desires? what if you feel so strongly about both, yet the life your living prevents it from happening? i’m in such a complex situation in my life right now, i wish i had the answers to all these questions and i wish it all works out.
i’l always love you.. this is a beautiful story and i suppose that no matter what happens, i’l always have my devotion for atleast one dream, and that will keep my head out of the water, just enough to keep dreaming.
Thank you for being.
*Luv_
Who is this ‘God’ who always tests you? Do you consider this ‘God’ to be a part of what you are or a separate entity? Aren’t you and this ‘God’ one and the same and don’t you therefore try and absolve yourself of any responsibility by saying that it is ‘God’ who tests you? Doesn’t ‘the buck’ stop with you?
I truly believe that the key to finding your personal legend is finding your heart and your own knowing. It is from there that the clarity of your journey actually opens up. And to follow your dream is a journey with different paths that will take you there. And when you draw closer to your dream, you see that all the different paths, the challenges, everything you’ve gone through begins to make sense.
It is a place you get to! And no one can take you there; they can only guide you.
Thanks for being part of my journey.
Love
Eliana
