The blackbird comes to a decision

An old blackbird found a piece of bread and flew off with it. When they saw this, the younger birds pursued him in order to attack.
 
Confronted by imminent battle, the blackbird dropped the piece of bread into the mouth of a snake, thinking to himself:
 
‘When you’re old, you see things differently. I lost a meal, it’s true, but I can always find another piece of bread tomorrow. However, if I had hung on to it, I would have started a war in the skies; the winner would become the object of envy, the others would gang up on him, hatred would fill the hearts of birds and it could all go on for years. That is the wisdom of old age: knowing how to exchange immediate victories for lasting conquests.’

Personal Legend by Mr. Topf

One of my favorite books I’ve ever read is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. The main idea of the story is that each one of us has the opportunity in life to follow our dreams and our destiny. The sad thing though, is that most of us don’t. We give up on our dreams, we lose ambition as we get older, and we settle. Whether it’s a career or even a significant other, we settle for what’s convenient, average, or “okay.” I can’t tell you how many times I’ve asked a friend how his job is going and he’ll say, “Oh, it’s okay” or “It pays the bills” or my favorite: “It sucks, but it’s a job, it’s not supposed to be fun.”
 
This is settling. This is giving up. And in my opinion,

Coelho’s “The Witch of Portobello” hits Iran’s bookstores

TEHRAN, Aug. 8 (MNA) — Paolo Coelho’s latest novel The Witch of Portobello translated by Arash Hejazi and published by Caravan Publications is now available in bookstores.
 
The Witch of Portobello narrates the story of Athena, an orphaned Romanian gypsy who was adopted as an infant by Lebanese parents. Athena marries and has children of her own, but she keeps thinking about her real mother and finally decides to return to Romania to find her. Athena confronts many incidents on her journey.
