Understanding cobwebs

By Paulo Coelho

When I was travelling the road to Rome, one of the four sacred roads in my magical tradition, I realised, after almost twenty days spent entirely alone, that I was in a much worse state than when I had started. In my solitude, I began to have mean, nasty, ignoble feelings.

I sought out my guide to the road and told her about this. I said that when I had set out on that pilgrimage, I had thought I would grow closer to God, but that, after three weeks, I was feeling a great deal worse.

‘You are getting better, don’t worry,’ she said. ‘The fact is that when we turn on our inner light, the first thing we see are the cobwebs and the dust, our weak points. They were there already, it’s just that you couldn’t see them in the darkness. Now it will be much easier for you to clean out your soul.’

And it rains….

Maktub by Paulo Coelho

I’m a big fan of the famous Brazilian novelist Paulo Coelho. I first read his best-selling book The Alchemist and from then on, I became a fan. His thoughts and ideas are just exceptional. I’m simply amazed on how his mind works and how and where he gets his ideas. And when I found his Official Site and left a message, I was more impressed when he replied to my message. I’m not sure if he was the one who read my message and replied, but still, he or the one maintaining the site took the time to reply to one of the millions of fans leaving a message for the author.

I haven’t read all his published works yet, since I’m always in front of the computer, books are second things for me because I still have dozens of stories from Fictionpress that I’ve saved to read. Anyways, I’ve Veronika Decides to Die but I think I have to re-read it again since I wasn’t totally into that book.

And last night, while I was searching about him, and some works he has written, I discovered Maktub, which is a collection of his best columns published in the Brazilian newspaper Folha de São Paulo, according to Wikipedia. So I’d like to share some very moving quotes from the collection:

Finally! by Jessica Key

Whew, my eyes are tired! I’ve been editing photos from recent sessions like a mad woman (thank you to all my patient clients) and I’ve also been able to finish two books this month! That’s a record since having my son last year. :) The first was The Witch of Portobello by my favorite author, Paulo Coelho. Another amazing novel. The second is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows…truely excellent! I had to avoid the newspaper for almost a week because it kept featuring people’s opinions on the story and almost avoid society at large due to the crazy number of people who tried to tell me what happens at the end! If you’ve read the book, PLEASE don’t spill the beans…nobody will appreciate it, trust me.

I thought I’d share a few photos of a BEAUTIFUL little newborn named Chase.
