I’m a big fan of the famous Brazilian novelist Paulo Coelho. I first read his best-selling book The Alchemist and from then on, I became a fan. His thoughts and ideas are just exceptional. I’m simply amazed on how his mind works and how and where he gets his ideas. And when I found his Official Site and left a message, I was more impressed when he replied to my message. I’m not sure if he was the one who read my message and replied, but still, he or the one maintaining the site took the time to reply to one of the millions of fans leaving a message for the author.
I haven’t read all his published works yet, since I’m always in front of the computer, books are second things for me because I still have dozens of stories from Fictionpress that I’ve saved to read. Anyways, I’ve Veronika Decides to Die but I think I have to re-read it again since I wasn’t totally into that book.
And last night, while I was searching about him, and some works he has written, I discovered Maktub, which is a collection of his best columns published in the Brazilian newspaper Folha de São Paulo, according to Wikipedia. So I’d like to share some very moving quotes from the collection:

I found this post interesting…..and when i read ‘Veronika’ it was everything I knew to be true…that all those ‘outside the institute are mad’ (not quote) because they believe that by being the same as everyone else, they are ‘normal’: Paulo gives freedom to be individual, and that is my LOVE, and I’ll pay dues forever - because my own flesh n blood had left me for just that…..!?
Everyone is different - that is how we are all the same.
And we all love, because we are not alone in our thoughts when an Authority can put our thoughts into words, the way that Paulo does.
Thanks be with you.
LOVE
“Veronica Decides to Die” was the very first book I read by him and left me with the msg. that I chouls live each day as it was the last one. Veronika began to free herself and stopped trying to be ‘normal’ once she thought her life would end soon.
I have read many of his books, in Spanish b/c I believe it’s closer to what he originally wrote in Portuguese, but I am having a really hard time finding “The Valquiries”. I’m also confused by the change in titles, is ‘The Pilgrimage’ the same as ‘El Peregrino”?
i am a big fan of Paulo Coelho. when i read his work, Veronika Decides to Die, i learned that this gentleman is a complete genius. He made me realized some things very covert in this modern era of time. I haven’t read any of his other books yet. What i just read are the zahir, the alchemist. the pilgrimage, eleven minutes, and by the river piedra i sat down and wept. I hope to read some of his books again.
