The Alchemist is the most popular and sought after book of the recent times. No marks for guessing this. But what’s that which makes it so close to people’s heart acoss geographical, cultural, linguistic and ideological boundaries. I read the Alchemist around 3 years back. It was a chance encounter with paulo coelho( through his book, of course) that really shook me with its depth, simplicity and wisdom. I am sure millions around the globe share same (or similar) experience. Although one can try break down the Alchemist in terms of its technical finesse, and other aspects that make Alchemist what IT IS. Yet I would desist from going into the Analysis of it because Analysis may make us understand more deply the “craft” of it but it may take away the beauty of it. It could be like tearing a flower apart to look for the “cause” of its beauty. Let the Alchemist ramain what is is; an ALCHEMIST OF THE HUMAN MIND IN THE NEW MILLINIUM.
