My comment below does not answer the question but in fact I believe it poses yet another question!....

But do we die???? Our body may cease to exist but I sense our souls continue into eternity. I haven't read the book in question so my answer is based on my personal beliefs which have formed from my countless experiences of life in this body. Yet I remember so much of life and lives that are not of this lifetime alone. And often I experience the state of timelessness; that is as if everything is happening at once; that there is no separation based on time. So I ask what life is, and what is death if all is happening at one time? Questions and possibilities about every aspect of life and death are endless; but I sense as God got it right when He/She created humanity that we all came with every answer we seek in this experience of life within us. So often we seek answers by looking outward from ourselves. I'm certain that if we start to look inward that maybe just maybe the above question and many more could be answered. Life is considered a journey and the route of our journey is determined by the direction in which we choose to look!
