Today’s Question by Aart Hilal

Where are we really heading as a civilization?

We are at a crossroads. Since spirituality is going to play an important role during the next century, we have two choices: either we go towards fundamentalism or towards tolerance. I am preaching tolerance, but this is a long fight, and it depends how people behave here and now.

if we trust and let our energies infiltrate the world (this requires patience and certainty)I believe we will be surprised and delighted by the outcome.

Fundumantalist = dictatorship of what you should believe right?
Tolerance = allowing people to explore and come to their own conclusions.

I’ve actually noticed the trend towards a general spirituality. A lot of people I meet seem to not want to come under any “banner” of a particular religion. They say they are not religious, they are spiritual. I think I am both. I actually believe the words of the Bible and use that as guidance in my life. I think spirituality is putting the teachings of religion into action.

I can’t say I’m well read in other religions but I do like to learn. I visited the Dalai Lama when he came to Australia to hear what he had to say. I also learnt a little bit about the Hindu religion. There is so much to learn from others.

I would hate to be told what to think.

It’s up to Us – people, the homo-sapiens.
I’m afraid – it may go wrong way,
but
I hope – it won’t.
If the power of love wins – we’re safe,
if the power of greed, control etc.,
(I call it power of darkness) – then we’re in trouble.
Hopefully we’ll be wise enough to understand what ‘s most important.
If not??
I don’t even want to guess.

There’s this quote from “Macbeth”:

POWER is Macbeth’s curse.
It inflames his guilt,
It forces him to abandon love;
He lives in the shadows of the night,
sleepless and afraid of being plotted against;
and in the end..
POWER drives him mad.

I hope that the civilization won’t go mad.(?)

love
