Today’s Question by Aart Hilal

by Paulo Coelho on January 10, 2008

Today, most people are talking about transformation, astral travel, holistic healing, channeling. Do you think these are indications of a paradigm shift in humanity?

It depends. I also see people complicating the communion with God. The new paradigm includes Rigor and Mercy. But we cannot be stupid enough to think that this is all. Appendicitis needs a surgeon, not a holistic healer.

I don’t believe its hocus pocus. I realise there are medics who do a fine job of taking care of conditions such as appendicitis and many would believe that therefore there is no need for any other type of healing profession.

But there are plenty of people who need a combination of allopathic medicine which does not always heal but can do a great job of covering up a problem or just chopping it out – then you have a Naturopath who tries to prevent you from getting appendicitis in the first place, then there are other forms of medicine which concentrate on the ills of the spirit which I definitely believe manifest into bodily ills.

I don’t think it was just Jesus and the disciples who healed with their hands – if done in the old days why not now. Most doctors and surgeons do a great job but they are not the be all and end all. There is plenty of room for help and a broader understanding of people and illness.

First of all, I apologize for eventual misspelling :)

I agree… and disagree with a smile on my face. I don’t believe in astral travelling, but my brain can “take” me wherever I want, I have witnessed people with other religious credences than mine talking “in tongues” and even if they had not idea of what whas coming out, they believed they were speaking in whichever language. Other think that their problems will be solved going to a medium… things like those. They believe, that’s the point, believing makes them to feel better.

What I believe in, but it doesn’t go as far as to cure an appendicitis and similar, is that we can “heal” ourselves, I trust the power of our minds, we can convince our bodies to get sick… and do the opposite too. I hope none specialist in reiki for example, reads me because I may say something wrong, I see healing technics as a way of giving some kind of love and peace. We talk about LOVE, God can be love and we are God, isn’t contact love too? what about feeling that someone appreciates you? and communication? Do we need to talk to a psychologist to feel better about something that bothers us? I think that in many cases it’s enough to drink a cup of cofee and a walk with a friend to get the same.

One thought came to my mind regarding this channeling etc.
I cannot deny I don’t believe in that but for me there’s danger that comes from that and this danger is – the source – not only if the healer is legitimate etc., but
how she/he can control from where the source of energy comes from (?) – good or evil (?)
I don’t think that anybody can.
That’s why, we should seek healing – only in God – love & trust can make miracles.

Strongly agree with Paulo’s answer here.

Why is it that people tend to become so biased in any question. If God is all, then all is necessary.

“Hoc est Corpus” rather than “hocus-pocus”…

Sometimes people have to go on a healing path of themselves to strip back all the layers to find their authentic self, with that in mind one may need to rebirth or change patterns ,so meditation and alternative medicine for the soul is sought ,but spirit gave us doctors and scientists for a reason ..its all about balance . Everyones path to God is different ,and in order to be whole we must make sure we are strong ,mentally ,spiritually and physically ..Doctors and healers are needed equally .Blessings Tania

I agree with Paulo,
You don’t have to go to extremes to find God.
The way to God is simple.
It’s through love and honesty.
You don’t need anything else.

and of course,
use common sense, when needed.
“Hocus-pocus” won’t heal you.:-)

I think these topics seem to come to the fore and then get buried again. In the past there were women who I think were just talented in these things and they were deemed witches and put to death.

I think now that you are able to speak more freely about different subjects without the threat of drowning they are starting to surface again.

People are afraid of things they cannot explain so become aggressive about them – that is why I believe astral travel, holistic healing has always been there but hidden and not able to be developed openly. I think with more knowledge and understanding, people will feel less likely to be ridiculed if they admit they have had these types of experiences.

Over the past 8 years I have definitely had to open my sometimes pragmatic and closed mind due to personal experiences. I always believed that I was a spiritual person but when it comes down to it and I was tested with going through what I thought were very strange experiences, I had a lot of trouble accepting that it was a spiritual change and I tried to rationalise it, made bookings with doctors etc. and then I tried to push it away.

I think the world is in need of a reminder that life is more than what you see and touch. I think the Holy Spirit is working its magic. The more I learn about these things the more I realise how connected people are to eachother on so many different levels and that is so beautiful.
