Dear Readers,
Recently I stumbled upon a question from a reader that intrigued me : are we prisoners of the past?
Please give me your thoughts on that.
Love,
Paulo

Yes, I think one can be a prisoner of the past until one learns to honestly and wholly forgive. Until we can come to understand that there was a purpose for these experiences and free ourselves of the resentment we hold towards others we will be prisoners of our past. We must learn to break free from the ties that bind us.
not the prisoner … but we can’t erase it from our life and our memory files so it reappears sometimes when a connection with common string links up accidentally.
Human beings are like tree with roots (roots is our past)so if we trie to take off the roots we will die… we need to love our past according this we will adore our future…I think I will not abondon my past coz it’s like picking off your skin, life is so simple from your past you make your future its an equal formula but with out regrets.
Everyone has a past. But if we dont do anything about it – in the present – the past will continue to imprison us.
So, what is it that we should do in the present? That’s a very profound question every human being needs to ask themselves, and start the journey – inward.
I don’t think anyone can undo the past.Yes,we can try not to be its prisoner ;but its beneficiary .
That is a justifiable question. For some, very appropriate as we can be prisons in our minds of our past. I tell my clients that live in the past, whether it is this life they are now living or a past life they experienced a very high, dramatic negative emotion where Everything reflects off that past….I say, it is like you are driving around with a rear view mirrow that is larger than the front windshield. You can’t see where you’re going for the rear view mirror is so big, you can only see where you’ve been. Take it down, let it go and start living. They have to write a letter to who caused them so much pain, anger, hate or grief, writing everything that comees to mind, telling them why they feel like they do, how they hurt, whatever they can think of, they write it all out, releasing all that negative energy. They end the letter with forgiving that person…They write “i forgive you because to error is human but to forgive is Divine. I forgive because I want to be good to myself. I forgive because I want to heal now…etc.” THEN THEY DESTROY THE LETTER and no one sees this letter but the person that wrote it. It releases all the negative energy from their body soul and mind and they can get out of that prison they are living in…I understand what they are asking.
In the early 90′s, I had a man that was manic depressive. He couldn’t find any help. Drugs, therapy… nothing helped. I hypnotized him and took him back to where this depression began.. It was 1891, he was in Ireland and his wife and mother of his 6 yr old child was run down by a runaway horse on a brick street in Ireland. he has carried that depression over into this life he now lives. He shed all the depression with 4 sessions, traveled to Ireland to investigate all he learned through his hypnosis. It was all true, right down to the address he had where he lived. It convinced me people do live previous lives and can become prisoners of their past. True story. Man’s name is Jim Manning from Lincoln IL. He is writing a book on this.
This is an interesting question indeed….
We are not and never are or have been “prisoners” of our past. We are always ONLY “students.” It would be impossible to be a prisoner because our many lives are filled with all of life’s lessons and those are almost all the time determined by our actions/reactions/responses. We are free to chose any that we have. Thought and emotion has no bars holding either back. As the universe strives for balance in ALL things…each experience that we have good or bad is a “lesson” that we “need” (not want, but NEED) to have in order for us to grow. The universe is always giving us these lessons freely, without compensation, with no expectation and only the opportunity to grow more divine in spirit. Our “ego” has no place here, and the idea of “prison” is just that- an idea that our ego has choked down by the many ignorant messages that we have been sent by the many ignorant messengers we did not ask for. It is our job, our “right” and our obligation to ourselves to ask all of life’s many questions). THAT IS being a good student of the universe. But it is also our job to look past the limitations and boundaries that we perceive as imprisonment. When we can do that, we get wings and then we can fly…..
