Today’s Question by Aart Hilal

by Paulo Coelho on February 6, 2008

You had an unfortunate experience – under the dictature in Brasil you and your wife were kidnapped and tortured by a paramilitary unit. In one of your interviews given to Juan Arias you remember one moment when your wife was calling you from one of the cells and you were too scared to answer her. Believe me, there are many people who would never admit being cowards in important moments of their lives. What made you admit this in public?

As Jesus Christ said, the truth makes you free.

Well, when it comes to our mistakes it seems to me that what most of us need the most is our own forgiveness. Truth sets us free. Our own forgiveness sets us free. I believe that whatever we may have experienced, if we dare touch it with love, we can learn from it. Being open about what must have hurt a lot, Paulo Coelho demonstrates to me that his love is now bigger than his fear in this. Why on earth should he hide that? When a person shines rheir own light, he or she inspires others to dare to do the same.

Todos nós já tivemos momentos de covardia, mas poucos têm a coragem de admiti-las!

It takes alot of courage to admit that we are weak at times. It takes humility and strenght to admit that we are wrong.

Dear Paulo,

Everybody sins, everybody makes mistakes.

The greatness lies in admitting your faults.

Only the humble man can do that and that’s the greatest virtue of all.

Christ was the most humble of all the men.
How we can compare to Him?

How we can compare to God?

lots of love
Agnieszka
