Today’s Question by Aart Hilal

by Paulo Coelho on February 15, 2008

How important are for you the distinctions you received? Or the fact that Madonna named The Alchemist her favourite book?

As important as the anonymous reader that helped the book to travel so far. So, at the end, it is the reader who is responsible for everything, and I thank him.

Awesome question!
Paulo Coelho is not the literary world’s most active Web aficionado, but he’s certainly its most prominent.

Now theres a lady with an empire..Madonna is always reinventing herself …every album and every song..and Leos are very particular about what they like .But point is your book was probably everybodys favourite ..so yes it is your readers .Blessings Tania

I believe that its all about how the book effects the reader. As maddonas life is very publicised, it is clear that she has not used all aspects of the alchemist as guidlines. Indeed, everyone and everything has its own way of dealing with life, yet it seems that the anonymous reader who follows there dream, because the alchemist gave them that drive to do so, rather than have someone who is famous but not through the way they want declare that the book is there favourite. I believe that if people read the alchemist and do not take into account the messages it gets across, then no matter how famous they are, it does not really matter that they read it at all.
