What I usually do is either play a song on repeat or listen to a soundtrack without lyrics. If it were possible complete silence would be prefered. I listen to songs and sing along when I paint, though. My life consists of much music, I miss it if it wasn't there...I found myself unable to have conversation over songs, like talking above someone, so then again, instrumentals in the background. I find too many distracting negative noises in the 'silence' - laptop whining, car door banging, air-vent whirring, I hate it - but they say I am a good listener, so that must be good.
