Today’s Question by Aart Hilal

by Paulo Coelho on March 28, 2008

You used to write songs for pop-stars. Why did you quit?

Because, after so many years of enjoying it, I start doing this without enthusiasm. Even if I received a lot of author rights, I could not hide to myself that this work was not touching my heart anymore. Therefore, as I need to be honest to my work, I stop writing lyrics.

I was listening to the music..
and it came to me..
why women are so emotional?
expression of feelings…
are we more brave than men to show it?
There are these songs by Annie Lenox:..“love is a stranger”, “miracle of love” – she sings on “peace tour”; so..emotional..
Yes..
the lyrics, music, are magical… you can be lost in the words..of music..
they…let you touch the soul of the world..
stimulates your senses, free every little tiny molecule of your body…
it makes you feel…high, like you on sth..
Life without music, lyrics would be so ordinary, so…stiff, so plain.
Another song by Madonna, whom I don’t really like – “Paradise (not for me)” – “I’ve been so high, I’ve been so down”, so…thrilling..
and Bono singing…”with or without you..”
Hmm…
the words.. the music…two the most powerful tools to fool, to tease with fire of love…

P.S. I would love to hear Your lyrics.

I love the lyrics that you wrote.
By the way, I do not make jokes…
But I agree; I am funny at times

Quotes from Carlos Castaneda:

Look at every path closely and deliberately, then ask ourselves this crucial question: Does this path have a heart? If it does, then the path is good. If it doesn’t, it is of no use.

Anything is one of a million paths. Therefore, a warrior must always keep in mind that a path is only a path; if he feels that he should not follow it, he must not stay with it under any conditions. His decision to keep on that path or to leave it must be free of fear or ambition. He must look at every path closely and deliberately. There is a question that a warrior has to ask: ‘Does this path have a heart?’

A warrior chooses a path with heart, any path with heart, and follows it; and then he rejoices and laughs. He knows because he sees that his life will be over altogether too soon. He sees that nothing is more important than anything else.

All paths lead to nowhere, follow the path with heart

A path without a heart is never enjoyable. On the other hand, a path with heart is easy— it does not make a warrior work at liking it; it makes for a joyful journey; as long as a man follows it, he is one with it

(In choosing to ‘quit’ writing songs for pop stars, Paulo was exercising his wisdom as a man of knowledge and living the life of a true warrior!!)
