Dear Paulo,
The first book I ever read of yours was The Alchemist. The first time I tried to read it I couldn’t finish it, and then the second time I was so absorbed in it that I read it quite quickly. Once I finished it I felt I had missed things and needed to read it again. That was a couple of years ago and I still have not reread it yet but I still want to. I didn’t really think to read any of your other books as I thought ‘how could they compare’. Then I came across an exert of Brida a few weeks ago and read the first couple of pages. I was hooked and needed to go out and buy the book to read it all. It took but a few hours. It was amazing. I was moved, and have had many thoughts going through my head and heart. It stirred something in me. I then needed to buy more of your books and the one I wanted to read next was The Pilgrimage which I have just finished. It too has touched me and stirred something inside me. I feel unsettled. It all seems to connect with thoughts and feelings I was having previously. I am Catholic but also see value and truth in other religions/beliefs, I think they are all connected and there is one God worshipped in different ways. I have been feeling a little lost and need guidance but do not know where to go to find a teacher. I look forward to reading another of your books but it will not be for a little while as I process whatever this is and am ready. Your books are inspiring and you are an amazing writer. Thank you. Uxo

I have to admit I was skeptical about reading your works at first but after I read “The Alchemist,” I became an instant fan. I was even more impressed with your works after reading “The Pilgrimage.” It made me want to go on my own pilgrimage. I also read “Veronika Decides To Die,” “Zahir” and “Eleven Minutes.” You are simply the best!

Thank you Paul for writing this reply to Gareth and your kind words to him! maybe New Age is not so bad as he thinks! and by the way why do they think that Paulo is the New Age author? Has he said he is one?

There are no coincidences,
no secret ties,
the truth,
though hidden deep inside,
is there,
in your eyes,
everything is written before,
even if you don’t know it,
one by one,
shows you its face,
its glowing,
insights open up your smile,
it’s…clear..
life is like a magical tale..
of miracle….tears.

I read “The Pilgrimage” very fast, it’s interesting and what I like about it is that it’s about real facts!
I couldn’t believe my eyes while reading, what sort of painful challenges you had to go through, in fact you wanted to go through, quite startling… I guess they made you stronger than before starting the journey.
Still, as much as I admire your ambition, I believe that the most valuable lesson you can learn is that of love, unconditional love. It’s easier to understand and feel love from a loving “Master,” not from a very harsh one. How can you know and understand light when you are blind, how can you feel wonderful in your life without kindness, gentle words and compassion, gratitude and bliss?
But, all in all, thank you very much for writing and sharing it! It represents a great lecture! :-)

Lots of appreciation and respect,
Cramen Larisa

Dear Paulo,
……
Your greatness is…
I don’t know what to say,
it makes love smile at you
every day.
With every moment of my life, I thank God for being,
He sent me You, when I had doubts,
He never let me be…
alone.
…….

lots of love

It is a pity that you could not make the pilgrimage to Santiago without taking along this fictional baggage of mystical fantasy. Medieval pilgrims travelled to Santiago to visit the shrine of the Apostle. It is a Catholic road. You are one of those who turn the Camino into something else, something which leaves people with the impression that mystical experiences are the point of the journey, and if they do not have them they are diminished. That is a shame. The Camino is for all, because God loves all, and the need for mystical experience of your kind is simply a self-centred fantasy. It is good for selling books, but it is not what the Camino is there for. The benefits of Camino de Santiago are being distorted by all this New Age nonsense and you are part of that.

What makes hell. A barking dog, an unhappy husband, a punk son, a witch mother in law, lack of friends, a distant lover and loneliness.

Hope that this is not too much.

Your admirer.

Sir,

Wow, I think it’s incredibly generous of you to do this. I heard there is a forthcoming film version of “Veronika Decides to Die,” I can only hope they do your novel justice, but I think Sarah Michelle Gellar should prove to be a wise choice in the lead role. Actually I must say I enjoyed that particular book very much, it actually inspired me to write about my own experiences on the subject which I’ve just completed. I think you added a good dose of humour to a serious subject and did so with great subtly and grace.

No doubt you’ll have no problem keeping up the hard work ;)

I was able to read around 5 of his books. I’m looking forward for the free books in the internet. Thank you so much Mr. Coelho for being generous to share your books to us.
Anyway, right now, I am very influenced by your book “By the River Piedra…”. Like Pilar, I am in the dilemma of giving in or not to what I feel for this certain person. I tried to follow my heart but I felt stupid doing so. Coming from a culture where women are expected to wait for men to approach them, I find myself cheap giving in into this feeling. This is my first time to feel such and I’m so confused. There’s always this battle between my heart and mind.
Can anyone tell me what to do? I would really appreciate it. Thsnk you so much!

Paulo… obrigada :)

Well, let us hope I do not post twice, a little operating difficulty. I am astounded that today I come back here today after many months of not visiting to find the Pilmigrage free, again, I lost my previous comment because I had to spell check the word, which as you can see, I did not spell well.

At any rate, this past week, I read again 3 books of my collection but fell short of reading The Alchemist again and The Pilgrimage, (I did it right? spelled ok?). Now I see this and realize, I have to face that book again.

So there, many thanks for this Mr. Coehlo.

Aguardo ansiosa o retorno,
Abraço,

“The Pilgimage” influenced me and made me go to the actual places and see new friends. I was fascinated by every single sentence and imagined every picture in it. It is still my important book but after reading the Witch of Portobello, I must say it is the one that really changed me. I feel like I should have read it much earlier. I just want to thank you Mr. Coelho for all the stories. love

Dear Soniya,

As Paul wrote, be true to yourself,
and…go slowly, one step at the time, cherish every little moment that comes your way, every little success.
Don’t be discouraged with little failures, mistakes you’ll make, everybody makes them.
and remember…

“the unexpected is always upon us”

Life has many surprises, many gifts waiting to unveil, magic is all around us.
All you have to do is….believe.

I wish you lots of love and many good things to come.
love
Agnieszka

The pilgrimage is not in my bookcase anymore. It disappeared. Or maybe I borrowed it. I can’t say by now.

I read the first pages many years ago. But I could not more than 2, I think. In that time, I was not interesting in these “Knighs Tales” anyway. Even though, my whole path have been basing on. Always taking me back to.

One day, I’ll read it.
