Dear Paulo,
The first book I ever read of yours was The Alchemist. The first time I tried to read it I couldn't finish it, and then the second time I was so absorbed in it that I read it quite quickly. Once I finished it I felt I had missed things and needed to read it again. That was a couple of years ago and I still have not reread it yet but I still want to. I didn't really think to read any of your other books as I thought 'how could they compare'. Then I came across an exert of Brida a few weeks ago and read the first couple of pages. I was hooked and needed to go out and buy the book to read it all. It took but a few hours. It was amazing. I was moved, and have had many thoughts going through my head and heart. It stirred something in me. I then needed to buy more of your books and the one I wanted to read next was The Pilgrimage which I have just finished. It too has touched me and stirred something inside me. I feel unsettled. It all seems to connect with thoughts and feelings I was having previously. I am Catholic but also see value and truth in other religions/beliefs, I think they are all connected and there is one God worshipped in different ways. I have been feeling a little lost and need guidance but do not know where to go to find a teacher. I look forward to reading another of your books but it will not be for a little while as I process whatever this is and am ready. Your books are inspiring and you are an amazing writer. Thank you. Uxo

I have to admit I was skeptical about reading your works at first but after I read "The Alchemist," I became an instant fan. I was even more impressed with your works after reading "The Pilgrimage." It made me want to go on my own pilgrimage. I also read "Veronika Decides To Die," "Zahir" and "Eleven Minutes." You are simply the best!

Thank you Paul for writing this reply to Gareth and your kind words to him! maybe New Age is not so bad as he thinks! and by the way why do they think that Paulo is the New Age author? Has he said he is one?

There are no coincidences,
no secret ties,
the truth,
though hidden deep inside,
is there,
in your eyes,
everything is written before,
even if you don’t know it,
one by one,
shows you its face,
its glowing,
insights open up your smile,
it’s...clear..
life is like a magical tale..
of miracle....tears.

love

Gareth, you are of course entitled to your point of view, but what you seem to be forgetting is that many of those who walk the Camino are neither Catholic or Christian. You would deprive many thousands of individuals the opportunity to find God, their God, and to get closer to the light. May your God bless you and help you learn to be tolerant. Surely 2000 and some years ago, many saw Jesus and Christianity to be, as you said, "New Age Nonsense"?

I read "The Pilgrimage" very fast, it's interesting and what I like about it is that it's about real facts!
I couldn't believe my eyes while reading, what sort of painful challenges you had to go through, in fact you wanted to go through, quite startling... I guess they made you stronger than before starting the journey.
Still, as much as I admire your ambition, I believe that the most valuable lesson you can learn is that of love, unconditional love. It's easier to understand and feel love from a loving "Master," not from a very harsh one. How can you know and understand light when you are blind, how can you feel wonderful in your life without kindness, gentle words and compassion, gratitude and bliss?
But, all in all, thank you very much for writing and sharing it! It represents a great lecture! :-)

Lots of appreciation and respect,
Cramen Larisa

Dear Paulo,
......
Your greatness is…
I don’t know what to say,
it makes love smile at you
every day.
With every moment of my life, I thank God for being,
He sent me You, when I had doubts,
He never let me be...
alone.
.......

lots of love
Agnieszka

It is a pity that you could not make the pilgrimage to Santiago without taking along this fictional baggage of mystical fantasy. Medieval pilgrims travelled to Santiago to visit the shrine of the Apostle. It is a Catholic road. You are one of those who turn the Camino into something else, something which leaves people with the impression that mystical experiences are the point of the journey, and if they do not have them they are diminished. That is a shame. The Camino is for all, because God loves all, and the need for mystical experience of your kind is simply a self-centred fantasy. It is good for selling books, but it is not what the Camino is there for. The benefits of Camino de Santiago are being distorted by all this New Age nonsense and you are part of that.
