Quote of the Day

by Paulo Coelho on April 10, 2008

By Paulo Coelho

When we renounce our dreams
we find peace and enjoy
a brief period of tranquility,
but the dead dreams begin to rot inside us
and infect the whole atmosphere
in which we live.
What we hoped to avoid in the Good Fight
-disappointment and defeat-
become the sole legacy of our cowardice.
(The Pilgrimage)

From your comments, I'm not sure I understand this quote correctly.
What I understand from this quote is that by renouncing our dreams we bring a temporary peace to ourselves. There is a certain release from anxiety, if we don't have dreams, or expectations we can avoid disappointment, but only for a brief moment. The dream will not dissipate, it will stay with you and if you don't give your dream an opportunity to be realized, or to materialize, it will stay rotting inside of you and it will affect your whole life. When you allow your dream to die, regret takes the place of the dream.

Dreams are often presented as something to avoid reality, difficulty and struggle with. To be realistic you should therefore renounce your dreams. But can life really be real if we don’t engage ourselves in the journey of life = the following of are hearts = that what real dreaming is all about.
But the following of our dreams often means being confronted with challenges, fear, doubt, difficulty, struggle… After the so maniest obstacle one sometimes gets tired, discouraged… moments that one longs for an instant solution, a time-out in which difficulty would resolve itself instantly and effortlessly…
But the only real way to get through is to take the next step…

Lots of love,
Vicky

THE DREAM WAS LIKE LIGHT FOR THE SPIRIT THAT COULD NOT LIVE WITHOUT KNOWING THE SORCE.

If I have a dream; it is this one, and surely not another. So I use all my skills too. But sometimes, it happens I don’t know where I’m living. :)

I never told to myself I had a mission, or something like that. What is out of wisdom for me.
I follow my need, and what can rejoice me, and make me better everyday. It’s coming on my way, I take it or not. On the beginning it’s just an idea. If it gives love to my heart, ok, I do.
Then, I don’t believe I have only one dream. Because I learned different skills, that can’t be forced bound together.
I could write, sing, play guitar, talk different languages, dance, speak easily to all… Does it mean my dream is to make a musical comedy movie? Or a tragedy one?

That’s not so easy to know about our dream or our mission, when we don’t really believe in. That’s just an idea, a concept. A certainty…

What I’m doing now rejoice me.
But if I understand:
you know your dream, as it talks to your heart, but then harsh is the way to reach it. Battles and battles to the top, to the final one, with some rest in it. Some sundays.

And, when you are not in your dream, first, it will satisfy, but then, “the dead dreams begin to rot inside us
and infect the whole atmosphere
in which we live.
What we hoped to avoid in the Good Fight
-disappointment and defeat-
become the sole legacy of our cowardice.”

You bet the concept is a bit paradoxal. How do we recognize our dream so? When it’s something you need by all your heart, then, as you’re in life, you will go forward in laugh and cry, winning or loosing.
Of course, at last, if you did not do something that permits you to spread love, you light off.
Gentleness is the way, in acting.

Maybe my life is not as well as I wanted to. But I work to. I can’t say, if it is about a dream.

Pain and sacrifice are in also. It doesn’t mean we don’t go forward. We go our way, and listen to our heart.
And I’m merely lost when I listen to others that can feed guilt.

I believe in reincarnation, and people in the world are very far to this “certainty”.
Why people are figthing? Some intimidative make the victims. They don’t find the way to cure past. Because “we have to forgot past, and live in present”.
That’s a fault. We have to remember, here, there and everywhere, all our past, in that life, and past ones.

Living without memory is not a good thing for me. Force oneself to forget is not a human normal thing. I mean, The Creation gives us memory, not to dig it.

Gratefully.

There will always be someone to teach you, you’re in the wrong dream, moreover when he’s fearing to enter his.

I would rather die fighting for my dreams than give up or let them rot inside of me .

As we choose to step back and rethink our dreams, we find the old ones will dissolve in favor of what results from self-growth and related revelations.

Isn’t that so true the easiest choice becomes the hardest road.

Yes..the taste.. of the dream is always tempting, but..
there are many dreams in life, some of them are more and some are less important. The mirror has always two sides, it depends from which angle we’re looking at.
Sometimes it is better to forget something and start the new adventure, where the excitement lets you enjoy every single moment, all over again.
Life is too short to waste it contemplating, when there are no perspectives worth fighting.
Maybe…we will never know how this dream.. tastes, but..life goes on..the music won’t stop…
who knows…what a new song…will bring…

love

That’s what I thought, then I experienced tragedy. Now I’m seeking a new dream, to help others that have gone through what I have. My true purpose in life. Thank you for all of your help. May it all come back to you:)
