My unfulfilled desires

One of the favorite questions of the journalists : ” now that you got everything you wanted, do you still have dreams?”

First, I didn’t get everything I wanted, although I got the most important things in life (love, fulfilling my personal legend, faith). Writing is a constant challenge, where you have to dig into your soul, having discipline, inspiration, and courage at the same time.

Second, like everybody else, I have my list of things that I want to do, and are still waiting. I don’t make “New Year’s” resolutions, but there are several unfulfilled tasks. I have enough time (contrary to the legend that famous people are always busy – they are not), I can afford, but I postpone.

Here is my list of things that I would love to do, and I never did. Would you please also share yours?

A]to learn how to dance well (from a 1 to 10 scale, I would say I am 2)

B] to learn how to play guitar ( from the same scale, I am definitely 1)

C] spend three months in a monastery, totally isolated from the world ( I already talked to the abbot three years ago, but I am always postponing)

D] a safari in Africa (politically incorrect, of course)

E] to sponsor a good boxer (I know it sounds politically incorrect, as the previous item, but boxing for me is the ultimate body dialogue)

F] to learn boxing myself

G] being in orbit circling the planet (the Russians are making a business out of it, but I never actually sought the information out)

H] to have dinner with Nelson Mandela (this one I tried, but I did not manage so far)

I] to fly a Mirage (as a passenger, of course)

While writing this list, I realized that I did most of the things I wanted (the most recent being a 9.280 kms train journey from Moscow to Vladivostok, in 2006). And probably I also have some other itens that are so hidden in my heart that I don’t even know. But just in case that I remember some more, I will update this list.

So, what are your “New Year” resolutions that you never ever managed to fulfill?

my unfulfilled desires:

1) fall in love
2) tell everyone that I’m gay
3) experience sex (I had before, but that was a very long time ago, I didn’t appreciate it back then)
4) write a novel
5) learn how to sketch and paint
6) learn the piano and the violin
7) write a song
8) fix my teeth/have braces (hope it’s still not too late)
9) straighten my hair and color them ash blonde
10)buy brightly colored clothes
11)learn to express myself more, verbally
12)say bad words more often
13)be not afraid to express anger, to hurt people without intending to
14)learn some ballroom and latin dancing, and some freestyle
15)travel the Philippines (I’m Filipino by the way)
16)travel the world, see auroras, see antarctica
17)see the world underwater
18)see a field of flowers, with just skies and flowers in the horizon (and butterflies)

I really hide a lot of craziness in me. I laugh alone a lot of times. I’m quite horny too, and lately I have tried writing my pervert thoughts on paper. Maybe I’d like to contribute an erotic story on the internet one day. I think sex is one of the most interesting things in this world. I might sound stupid, especially to say all of these. But sex is just very very interesting.

The list of the things I want to do before I die:

Forgive myself and forget about mistakes I’ve made in the past;

Give the best for my mother as she deserves more (I’m not perfect son, but I love her. Sometimes just the time runs a way too fast and I say the things I never wanted to say.);

Buy or build a house where my family could live;

Find a girl to fall in TRUE love with;

Kiss in the sunset and sunrise at the beach;

Marry in the church;

Learn how to play guitar;

Learn to sing;

Learn to swim better;

Travel the Europe by hitchhiking (I think it’s a fantastic way to meet interesting people);

Visit all the 7 continents;

Jump out from the plane to parachute (the only thing what stops me to do that is mentioned at next point);

Overcome my fear of excessive heights;

Climb a mountain (doesn’t matter where as I’m living in Latvia which’s one of the flattest countries in the world :D );

Learn Spanish and French (I hope to learn at least one of them, I’m lazy to be honest, but I want to prove myself I can do that :D );

Help the poor and unhappy people;

Drive the legendary Route 66;

Rear two healthy and happy children, love them and give them the best;

Have a dog again (never had a dog since my childhood when he died);

See the volcano eruption from safe distance;

Write a book and publish it;

Make a pilgrimage;

Make a journey with my closest friends;

To live in love with God again.

Well that’s a lot, hope to fulfill these dreams.

But the main one is still to become a professional photographer. Yes, I want to take the photos which would inspire people all around the world.

To be financially independent so i could give my mother the life that she so deserves. Some luxuries and recreation to make her rethink that to enjoy the finer things in life isn’t something to be guilty about. She has put everyone in our family first before her needs that I have not seen her spent anything for the ‘wants’ in life for herself.

1) Learn how to paint better
2) Learn to dance flamenco
3) Write an architecture/urbanism blog.
4) Be a part of a relief team for Haiti.
5) Camp on a deserted beach with a group of friends
6) Travel to Thailand and India.
7) Fall in love again
8) Forgive myself for past mistakes
9) Have a stronger faith in God, find God. This one is the most important one and the hardest. I have always doubted God’s existence until i began to read you Paulo. Thank you for giving me the gift of your writing, which made me become a person who searches and believes in a higher power, instead of a person who doubts.

After reading some of the postings above. I realized I had made many of my New Years resolutions come true and I am thankful. So rather than posting what I would like to happen to me this upcoming year. I will just share what I have managed to accomplish in past years.

-Scuba dived in Porto Plata
-became a mother of two boys (my true love)
-learn how to bake a cheese cake (the only thing I can bake)
-took spanish lessons (not fluent..but i took the lessons)
-became a fashion buyer (I still don’t know how I pulled that one off)
-l have bought a meal for a homeless kid in Buenos Aires ( I wish I took him home with me).
-l have got drunk in the morning, noon and evening.
-l have grown a plant from seed
-I been to a nude beach (Anguilla, it was nice)
-l have seen a sunset and a sunrise in the same day.
-I met Maria Rita, you should you tube her.
-l have slept on the beach at night.
-l have ridden a horse along the shore of the sea, it was really special.
-I camped in Banff and for a second I thought “if God lives anywhere, this is where he lives”.
-Took two guitar lessons. Can’t play the guitar, but I took the lessons.
-Spent New Year eve in Copacabana Beach wearing white like everyone else. The most perfect way to welcome a New Year. You should try.

Picking on from Ananda,

I recently read Autobiography of a Yogi, by Paramhansh Yogananda, interesting read, if one can drop prejudices. a line which i though would share here is

“The karmic law requires that every human wish find ultimate fulfillment. Desire is thus the chain
which binds man to the reincarnational wheel.”

so if u have a dream, if any thing u want, it has to ultimately manifest, that is your ‘universe’; authors of the secreat’ tell us that only, to ask us to desire, strongly. but this author tells us diffrently, he says it is root cause of reincarnation.

now choice is ours, if we are not tired of teh wonders of the world, if we want some or much more of it, then desiring is our way, if we have had enough of it, then acting without desire is our way. Desires, in themselves should not rule us, we should chose if we want to have desires !!

love

Paul, an evocative post as ever. My feeling, these days, is that the desire for anything is simply the desire of consciousness to know itself. I spent years firstly chasing after the usual things, then moving on to spirituality, going on every kind of meditation and yoga retreat in india, and finally realising that all of this is God’s play, the oneness searching for itself!
with love, ananda
