Today’s Question by Aart Hilal

When did you start writing and what has inspired you?

A pilgrimage was my rite of passage. All of a sudden, walking during 56 days from France to Santiago de Compostela, in 1986, I realized that the connection with God was simpler than I thought, and that was better to, instead of trying to understand why am I here, start being here and accepting that God must have a reason for that. I my case, I always thought of being a writer, but I was 38 years then, and I thought it was too late. However, at the end of the pilgrimage, I said to myself: if you want to be here, you need to fight for your dreams. And I decided to write my first book.

    Dear Paulo,
I have no idea what made me write first poetry and then short novel when I was teenager, maybe the possibility to create alternative world, or paths that I choose for main caracters. Maybe it was influence of my mother, who invented stories for me and my brother, or because we were subscribed for weekly fairy tales /four per week from all over the world/ and in three libraries as well.
Maybe because I am reader since I’ve learned to read.
There were days when my brother and I would read by the candle light because our parents would not let us keep light so deep in the night, as we were even not teenagers.

I abandoned writing /except diaries/ for years and then even them.

Now I feel I have so many stories to write, so many alternative destinies to describe but somehow I do not have that early conviction.

After reading your Warrior of the light nr 170,
I took pencil and copybook and after 13 years, as in 1995 one my short story was published in one weekley, the words started to flow, and not only words but the wish to do finaly what all my life was waiting to be done.

Of all people I think you would understand me best. Big confusion is within me, that’s for certain.

I hope not give to up now that I have found the force to face the fact it need not be masterpiece….

Thank you with all my heart, for your words, for your work, for your force that somehow I feel is charging me with positive energy.

    With love and gratitude

    Luce

I’m glad that You did!!! The world of words would be empty without Your books.

So hard to start something, when you’re never so sure that what you’re doing, or writing, is good enough. You may have moments when you feel something is..good, or maybe even your heart tells you that, but still you’re stuck, afraid of the first step, or the second..

    love

    Dear Paulo,

I began to think seriously about becoming a writer about the same age you did and reading this tidbit of your story years ago gave me hope to follow my calling. It’s never to late to answer your calling in life and to follow your dreams. Thank you so much for being an inspiration to me.

    Love,
    Clary
