In your novels “The Fifth Mountain” or The Alchemist there is a wide deep understanding of the countries where events took place, how did you reach such relation with what you are not related to. Are books and movies enough?
You relate to cultures through art – this is the most important bridge among different civilizations. The Arabian Nights, and most of the classical Arabic texts helped me to understand and admire the soul of the Arabian people.

This is a part of magic in litterature. Words can make us travel and feel others culture, as if we were living it.
Sometimes, I tell to myself: what if the characters and towns we create, were really alive, in another dimension, another time..?
Hmm…. “The Alchemist” my first book of Yours Paulo. I still feel this magical enchantment as I was reading it those two times.
It gave me…so much…hope, love, understanding…light.
It was like a heavenly experience of the soul, so full of colors, fairy tales, shining stars, and full…dreams. Dreams of the simple boy who wanted to see the world, to find the treasure of his life, to find love. Through his eyes I could see this beautiful place, feel the wind, touch the sand and…experience the miracle of life…every single moment.
I will never forget that. And those words of..God..so beautiful.
“The Fifth Mountain” amazed me, because it opened my heart to…God. Helped me realize that everything about God is…simple, as we all are.
It is enough to feel it, to touch God’s heart.
Thank You
love

What a beautiful and true statement.Art is one of the ways ,considered by many wise men ,in which one can touch eternity.Art may have the key to rich the Divinity and maybe that is why is such an universal way of comunication and of preservation of a culture.e.g.Enkidu in a story from more than 3000 years ago is available to us because of the ancient story tellers.I dont want to go to far,but we know that many of the stories has common elements, and is that the explanation for why we can feel familiar reading stories of other culture. The smart woman who avoid death by telling stories I think is a metaphor for all writers or story tellers ,because in that way they have a chance to be remebered even after their physical death. Also,in the moment one listen to aq good story or read a good book ca be so involved in text that escape real life and we may say escape time.
