Don’t you think challenges are everywhere? And that fear and laziness take them far from it?
Yes…the challenges of life make you stronger, make you understand what’s most important and precious, life itself,
…every minute…every breath..every heartbeat.
love

I agree with Paulo the youth of today are always being rescued , parents of today don’t seem to give them tough love as they call it ,and they tend not to teach the youth the tools in which to handle themselves ,alot of them today do not know how to be responsible, you have to let the make mistakes in order to learn and if they hit rock bottom ,let them ,but if Mum and Dad keep giving them money to support there drug habits or because they cannot pay there bills then they are only dis empowering the youth …Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind to ..the youth these days have so much more and just keep wanting more …cars ,computers ,Ipods ,mobile phones ..all these things cost more and they expect that there parents will pay …if you can not afford it don’t get it …very simply .They should get of there backsides and get a job or whist following their dreams ,still work part time .I believe the best challenge is to overcome the self .Loving yourself is the first step ..
then do not blame ..its your life ..fix it if you dont like it .Love and light Tania

I dont know what to say.Maybe that one time I disagree. We can not put all people in the same pot.I feel I encounter every day challenges, and I live today. It is true I am curious,I have a bit of ambition and intelligence.I respect you so much, pease forgive me I can not accept your statement. All depends on one sensitivity.I think.Love you
i see that Paulo refers to what he s been through as challenges.. not problems…so beautiful consideration…i wish i could see more often my problems as challenges too..
so i guess the biggest problem=the biggest CHALLENGE is not to have challenges…
If the only challenges to to-day’s youth come from rules and regulations set by those in authority, so absolutely clear that their way is right, then I might have some agreement with what you say. (Although there are still plenty of those who come from this viewpoint.) The base from which to rebel and find their own way is probably a little less definite, less rigid, so the springboard seems to be a little softer. This does not make it easier, but all the more difficult. It is relatively easy to go against something which you can recognise as being so obviously ‘wrong’. There is in my experience, less teaching of the ‘right’ way to be, because the adults themselves are questioning what they believe. This can mean that the youth of to-day are left to do it for themselves, to listen and take heed of what they know to be right. And this must be so very difficult to do when combined with trying to find some sense of identity. Having been brought up to depend on ‘others’ for so much, which is just a part of being a child, to suddenly find oneself bereft of guidance is a scary place to be. Children expect their parents and other adults to ‘know’ what is right. They are supposed to be older and wiser. What a shock to discover that they don’t; when that child realises that the adults don’t know; can see with such clarity that those supposedly mature people are as lost as they are, it’s no wonder that thay feel a bit lost and almost hopeless.
There are many, many challenges which exist for to-day’s youth; they are just not the same ones, or perhaps just do not take the same form as those that you might have experienced in your youth. If you are in any way suggesting that life is so simple and maybe easy for the youth of to-day, I would most respectfully suggest that you are seriously out of contact with those youthful individuals. The challenges are there for all, just come wearing different clothes.
With love and great respect for all you are and do …..
Dearest Paulo and friends,
i agree with alex on this one.. I don’t agree with Paulo for change. Sure, challenges create a stronger individual, but everyone in life has challenges. Paulo, It seems, that although the challenges you’ve encounted when you were younger, are not the same for the youth today, it doesn’t mean that challenges don’t exist. They may be different, but they do exist. And i think the answer to this question, the biggest problem with youth, very much depends on the society and the environment of that group of youths. I feel as a youth, one of the most important issues is learning the ability to think for one’s self. Being who you are, or atleast, doing what you think is right. And in my country, one of the other main problems, is lack of education, drugs, alcohol, and unprotected sex- especially when it comes to AIDS and teenage pregnancy. In my country, there are many many problems that youths have to face. But then again, in america or england, the problems with the youth maybe totally different, see what i mean?
tania,
I understand what you mean to an extent, i know very well that parents work very hard to provide everything for their kids, who end up spoilt and unable to fend for themselves in the world. No all parents spoil their kids as well, and i know many youngsters who work and earn to buy what they want, and even go for their dreams. You must not forgot, many people face different challenges in life. Many youths of today, have to grow up in broken homes, and thats why they turn to drugs and alcohol and promiscuous behaviour, which of course leads to bigger problems. I come from a good home, and have an excellent support system, but that does not mean i don’t know of problems other youths face today. Not everyone even has families here..
Thank you for being

the biggest problem that the youth nowadays can be rooted into one concern..THEY DON’T KNOW WHERE ARE THEY HEEDING TO.they don’t know the purpose of their journey in life, how fast or slow is their pacing, and above all else they have the confusion in identifying which activities that will enhance their entire being…wanting to be happy is i guess a universal need.how to attain ineer peace and happiness solely depends on how we perceive things and decide on them…i am a youth too…these comments are based on my experience and observation.
That’s true and also lower expectations. We should expect and inspire them to reach for higher goals and dreams.
Maybe today there are very many disctractions so far to be really excited with ideals.
Maybe today leadership is not that easy and world leaders are missing the carisma that there used to be in the past.
Maybe money is ruling the world so it is collapsing the youth, the grown ups and the babies to be born

Maybe any previous time seems to be better, but everything is an ilusion. Today, people are as god/bad than yesterday.
(como a nuestro parecer cualquier tiempo pasado fue mejor… Jorge Manrique)
again - this is something depending on where you are born and where you grown up.
I don’t think the young ones from Africa who risc their lives in small boats trying to go to Europe would agree… neither your own children in Rio and all the others still living on the streets.
I can not imagine what it is like to go to bed not having eaten for one or two or more days in a row. What it is like to not be able to take a hot shower or at least wash myself when I like to. What it is like not to have money to lifes necessities like food and roof over my head. What it is like to live in a country where madmen come with kalashnikovs and threaten to shoot you and your family…
challenges? all you need is to go and share the life with one of these persons for a month or two, (without any money, vaccines or all the other safety-lines we rich people have!) there you are, try to survive. Challenge enough.
Or join one of those great organizations who go to these countries and build houses, dig wells and do other necessary works which lead to new hope and life.
You get as much challenge as you want… by nature we’re just too lazy. Or?
Readers and friends,
Everyday I tried to read all the comments in this site.
I am filled with boundless amusement because some people like you do have this inner wisdom of life…….
Many people nowadays have been existing to this world of indifference. It is so sad that only people live.
My point of view about the question is, I believe that the problem of our society starts from ourselves.
We may be a good parent or good child. We may have learned the values from our schools but still we don’t put this into actions.
The cancer is us.
