Today’s Question by Aart Hilal

What impelled you to write 11 Minutes apart from the events described in the epilogue to your book?

To try to understand my own sexuality – and by consequence, why does the world turns around these eleven minutes of sex.

I just finished 11 minutes yesterday, 2 days. I agree, “the world revolves around those 11 minutes.” I think when you find your equal in spirit, like Maria did, it must be the feeling like being in heaven and meeting God. I guess as human beings we have to trial and go through different worlds to be shape and transform for when that equal does come into light. Of all the books this one transmitted me to another world. Every page had my attention from the beginging to the end.
    thank you,

  • In my opinion which is, as always, not a romantic one is that “The Alchemist” is regarded as Paulo’s most famous books because it is the philosophically SOFTER of his books.
Having read all of Coelho’s other books I can tell that “The Alchemist” is surely not my favourite ONE and probaply not his best. The Alchemist is sort of a tale.Tales are soft.People like tales and for people that do not spend themselves much time thinking and analysing life, the Alchemist would really make a difference.Becuase it makes people think philosphically in an entertaining way.It makes philosophy fun, and indeed it is.But sadly for many or most people it is just boring. The book itslef gives a lot wisdom.

Because as the song “take a look around”(Limp Bizkit) says:”Life is a LESSON, u learn that when u are through”.

So, what is life without us being able to extract wisdom and knowledge from it?
The same thing that it is for babies that die by abortion.

Knowledge, expirience, wisdom are all very important.Had everyone had them and there wouldn’t be abortions.

I like your entire post on this subject Tania, especially

Quote “There are so many other wonderful ways to understand ..about sex, family ,beliefs ..God too” ..Unquote

Yes for example via this wonderful Paulocoelhoblog ;)

Love & blessings to you too, Paul

  • Having lost Paradise we have become …half.According to Plato we spend our lives searching to find our other half..I believe that we, human beings, feel lonely and separated and we try to transcend our loneliness with Love. Of course the ideal love is our aim and the expression is through sex. To be one, to forget yourself, to look into the eyes of the beloved and read his desires forgetting your own…Who has achieved or lived this and does it last…for ever..? I cannot separate sex and love…I am an old-fashioned romantic..LOVE THELMa

  • What happens here proves why sex is the only thing we understand and believe in as a pleasure that brings… happiness!?
What happens here?People that post comments here(refering to most people) DON’T communicate with each other. They communicate with ONE person-Coelho.The same thing happens with sex and family. In family we create a circle of people that we love and there is this ONE person that we have sex with(unless it’s an “open relationship”..lol).
There should be no boundaries in our love.Love shouldn’t aim on one person or on the people it is easy for us to love.Have u ever thought that god loves YOU along with another 100 billion people!? Aren’t WE gods ourselves? Can’t we do as he does?
Love guys comes through any sort of communication. You know why people don’t have love?Because they do not ALLOW communication.

  • I think the world only thinks about this ..11 minutes because its all they know ..they dont educate themselves into looking at other ways or other cultures ..Its just like people who look at what they think is a normal family ..Mum -Dad -Boy-Girl -or maybe step children ..etc .Just look at the Angelina /Brad Pitt/Jolie //to me thats a whole family ..when you love outside ,and learn to understand …why does the world turn around certain beliefs ..like 11 minutes or normal families ..There are so many other wonderful ways to understand ..about sex, family ,beliefs ..God too .
It all goes back to coming together as one .
    Blessings Tania

Dear Paulo, I believe it is because of the “Sehnsucht” that’s “Longing” in English, that’s “Desejando” I think in Portuguese?

I believe that is what makes the world go round, the longing for the light. Perhaps it’s God’s great “Domino” game?

    Food for though, Love, Paul

  • 11 minutes,is good for a metafor,fictionality.11 is a symbolical number?Anyway,the book is very good,showing the way from a certain innocence ,trough temptations,illusions,toward a true Love.
