My biography, entitled The Wizard, has just been released in Brazil and given that I opened all my files to my biographer, some people have been horrified with my past.
So here is my question to you: Should you know all about me?

Not all, but as a friend.. because we readers feel you as a friend, we like to know as much as possible, that is usual in friendship… a human soul.. feels interest in the other human soul.. his feelings, experiences, sadness, happinness, success, defeats, hopes, dreams… thoughts… etc.,

i think that people should know as much about you as you would like them to know about you. you might be a publicly known figure, but you are a person, and thus have your preferences in what, you say, and when and to whom.

i presume in releasing information on yourself for publication you are quite willing to pass on events from your life, but to what extend is your choice as much as it is a readers choice to read the material that you choose to make public. a reader can hardly complain about shocking facts in your life if he or she chose to read about these facts in the first place. life is all about choices, you have to make the choices that a are right for you, while your readers make the choices that are right for them.

personally i admire you less for how your write, but what you write about (i am saying this even though some people might hate me for this comment, but it is the truth) writing stiles are a personal preference, and i prefer some other authors styles, yet the content of your stories touches me more than any other i have read.

and as a result i would love to ask you questions, and i would love to meet the man behind the books, because i feel that you have a lot to teach, and i have a lot to learn from you.

My dear Paulo Coelho: What your books have given my life, definitely could not come from an evil man, we all have our history, filled with good things and bad, nobody is perfect, but all these are things that give us the tools for what we are today, for what you are today. If you know everything or nothing from you?, in particular for me is to know the fascinating story of a man who writes books as spiritual like yours and I do not judge simply admire the way a human being has managed to stand up and face the adversities of life.

Not, i think it depends of you,

You are a writter, many people learn and been inspired of your books, that have a lot of yourself. There are some others that don`t

But i think the question it’s WHAT FOR? what is the purpose of sharing this o that of my past?………
And we like readers or fans of you, make us the same question.

I don’t need to know everything of your past, i take the things i like of your books, And past away the things i not agree with,
i know you once in mexico in “guerreros de la luz ” group. i saw you`r human jjjjjj, so that`s good for me.
kisses.

dearest learner ….
as i have come to knw u since the very first time i read ur wrk ……. u hv always been a very avid and a daring learner ; learning from life watever it had to teach u at diffrent points of time …. evrytime u took those roads to sacred pilgrimages ..u took a road closer to ur self .. ur own .. soul … u hv taken a conscious initiative to hear it out .. becos u knew once and believed for times to come dat ur soul always had somethng to tell u ….. n u wanted to be der for it to be listened to .. just as it ws always dere .. wid u in d darkest of times of ur life ….. wat all i have gathered from ur books .. gives me a fair idea .. dat there is hardly any of the worldly lessons for u to learn .. but since learning is always a cumulative process and its never complete unless u pass the knowldege to the rest who seek it ….. ull never be satisfied … .. u will always have somethng to say … and something to listen to .. now i guess after all those works of urs .. whre u had .. talked abt .. the importance of following one’s dream , to have faith,to see the lighter side of the darkness, to almost just about evrything ….. i guess.. u have reached ur accomodation point ..once again … now wat is left for ya to speak .. can hardly be put as a story .. so u giving it away as ur biography is the wisest of any other story u cud think off ….. i silently but very completely agree with ur idea of baring it all …… becos .. its important to culminate all ur lessons into one .. where the seekeers can understand … how to track their own accomodation point …… .. dat is the only best .. dat ur work can do to us ..as seekeers now and in times to come ……… love pauolo …. god bless u …

Nothing is life is ABSOLUTE! What’s ok today, may not be Ok tomorrow, what’s OK here may not be OK there. What’s Ok in this case, may not be ok in other cases. It all depends on situations, intentions behind them, place, time, and audiences.
We sometimes need to filter informations we share based on our intentions: ‘What is the purpose of my sharing this information? ‘what would my readers gain from the infomation I share? Is it useful, harmful, or benign information? .. After asking questions, if there’s no harm behind it, then of course it’s ok to share. If not, then we may need to plug in our filters. :)

You have been so generous with the world sharing all that you have become, how could we dare to ask for more? The question really is this: without your past would you have become all that you are now? Your spirit infused words breathed life into my soul which had writhered and seared in a crucible and was sliding slowly into darkness. You returned me to light. We who adore you would like to absorb every bit of information you will allow. Ahhh, but should we? well…All I know is that if we can, we will.

I think that’s a question only you can answer for yourself. I think the real question here is, “Do my past trespasses make a difference in how people view my present incarnation?” I personally believe that in order for someone to be knowledgeable and to share knowledge in order to improve others’ lives, he or she needs to have personally experienced things that are not necessarily savory to the general populus. I haven’t read The Wizard yet, but I imagine by what you’ve alluded to, that you’ve done or experienced things that you believe you may be judged for. If you hadn’t had those experiences, though, how could you have honestly written with such insigh and beauty afterwards? I wish you all the best and look forward (as always) to whatever your next writing will be.

Some human beings are compelled to judge, no matter what they read, or about whom. This has less to do with the focus of the writing than unresolved issues inside the critic. If you love someone’s work, you are, in some sense, expressing a facit of unconditional love. Not everyone has yet learned to “go the distance,” that is to accept other human beings despite choices that may not resonate in your own mind. The thing is, you aren’t that other person so you aren’t expected to make the same choices.

Although there are an infinite number of possible futures there is only one past, in which we all share.

…I believe that only God can see & understand the true meaning of what has been, but we can rest assured he has taken it from us in Love & in return given us the ever perfect present.

My philosophy is this – what you do in your private life is your own business. If you are comfortable exposing very private episodes of your life, then do so. Just remember that, unfortunately, many people (especially in the media) will take things out of context and try to drag you through the mud.

I do not believe that your past “belongs” to the public, the readers; your past belongs only to you, your family and friends.

Now, being a big fan of your work I would want to know all I can about you and your history/background – up to the point where it does not hurt you, or cause you undue distress.

I await your future works with great anticipation!

Dear friends,

We have been promised that God knows everything about us, each little hair on our head. So why cant we see God and live? Often Holy Apparitions shows people the good and the evil, heaven and hell. The more we can take to know about each other, the more we can be able to love the other. I believe if I met you Paulo, I would

Dear Mr. Coelho,

When I first read about the apostles, where they traveled, how they suffered, what they did, I felt awe. But I also felt that the constant kindness and endurance was sort of inhuman (super-human). Yet, in one of Paul’s epistles, I came across sayings like ‘I have a flaw on my body’ or ‘I’m old and tired’, and then I realized. He is just a man, I can relate to him, I can pray to him.

It’s just the same with people we admire in our time. In our heads they stand on their pedestals with all their greatness. But it’s when they come down and pass by us like common people, that we understand. Words like courage, faith and love have no meaning in the mouth of a flawless person.

After all, I remember reading that you once said, that when you admire someone, you want to learn everything about him/her. Well, so do we.

I have never been a reader of yours, having read only O Demônio e a Srta. Prym, borrowed from a friend. But after reading your biography, which i finished in 7 days, i becamse a fan. I thought your books were just books but after reading your bio i realized they are from somenone who has seen, been through and lived all that is written there. So i think yes, it worthed writing the biography.
And to answer your question, no one will never know it all. There are misteries we keep hiden even from ourselves.

Caro Paulo,

Pois isto faz parte do estilo de vida rock and roll.

Jorge Hirata.

Sure you should share part of your life to us all!
As a public figure everybody wants to know more about you.
Even though i was surprised with some aspects of your life I recognize that it takes a great courage share all this to the world.
The described events of your life were very touching though.
I had never read one of your books before i read the “O Mago”
but now i think i should read them all.

when we know more about an author´s life it is easier to understand and get in touch with the world created by his mind.

Why not? You are not different that the majority of all of us, it is just your Spirit that have spoken through your writing. So, IF I get to know everything about you, the walls will just come down, and I would be able to see my self through your eyes…When you open your self to be vulnerable, more human, you become closer, you become real, you become a source of life!

I believe that ones past is everything but ones own, I believe your actions have in one way or another influenced everything on this earth and can so not be regarded as “your” past. So I believe you are merely giving a personal view of happenings for which you were present (hopefully). As for people being horrified with your past, they need to broaden their horizon of thought. “Every saint has a past and every sinner has a future.” Not to mention seemingly inability to disassociate the message from the messenger. Your messages, regardless of your past, have inspired many people to do extraordinary things and you’ve helped many through the turmoil in their lives. Share your view, share your message and if some people fail to see the beauty and love which were repercussions of your life, then it’s their problem, not yours.

At first glance the casual observer might conclude that the Warrior of Light poses this question to confront an insecurity that apparently threatens him. However, those who love him see the tightening of a bowstring and await with excitment the release of yet another carefully aimed truth piercing the delusions of their perceived mundane realities & releasing their spirits to live, dream & live dreams.

I haven’t read your biography yet, however, I’ve read two of your books and my opinion is based on this. Your writing is very special and I think is a reflection of your soul’s journey and awakening. I’m guessing that in your biography you are very open about your life story…….congratulations for showing us courage….a definite trait of a true warrior. If we are truly present, we have the understanding that the past is a valued stepping stone to who we can be NOW…..Thank you for your light Paulo, and who are we to judge?

Dear Paulo,

I am sure there is a reason you needed to tell your own story. Whether it’s because you felt like you owed it to your fans or you wanted people to accept you for who you truly are, it should not matter what the rest of us thinks. Do what feels right and you will not regret it later. Remember that even those who judge have something to hide. Personally, I would love to read your biography as I am sure I would learn something from your experiences, just like from your books.

Best Regards,
Marjana

For one who has given so much, I would hope your decision is a purely selfish one. In other words if you choose to reveal “all the dark hidden secrets” because you need or just want to at this point in your life ……..go ahead, we can take it or maybe some like me may choose not to know. I think you revealed more than you realized in the story about the young woman who becomes a sex worker for awhile. I really disliked the ending. Scott Peck did something similar in “In Search of Stones”, I wonder if the experience was cathardic for him? Oh, Paulo to be human after all.

For some reason, your question is frightening. I used to love your books, I have a copy of most of them. My experiences in reading your books are very spiritual. However, when I read valkyries, I now hesitate to buy your books everytime I see them in the bookstore. I believe in angels too, but what you presented in the valkyries-the other reality, that if angels do exist so does the devil or the dark side or whatever man chooses to call it. That reality is frightening. You seem to be a very enlightened man. But don’t you ask yourself at times, when is enough? Your thirst for enlightenment seem insatiable. So when you ask that question, “should you know all about me?”, I cannot help but wonder, is that for your benefit? or for the benefit of the readers?

It is my grate pleasure to have this opportunity sharing my totes with Paulo Coelho.
About The question I am not sure that is useful for present and the future.
It is my opinion that the cycle of life is turning and as I see it in my own life
There in universe we have our past and information saved.
So many things we cannot reveal because sometime it is not real or it is seems unreal.
I am 31 and four years ago I was diagnosed with progressive MS.
Life was just starting (for me it is in the continuing process)
I have a husband who I married Six month before I was diagnosed with MS.
Shortly after being diagnosed I was in a wheelchair and even sooner I almost lost my ability to move and my speech. (Now is different because I went after my personal legend!)
Almost two years ago I gave a birth to a miracle baby girl.
This is just a beginning of a mystery.
Recently I took photography classes and without filling my disability and scooter noise I am continuing living.
Here is my answer for life being unpredictable and holding me in the cycle.
The past is the past and the picture me standing on my tows in one foot and meditating is not real anymore.
Reality is that I cannot stand and walk…………….but I can fly…
Love your question.
It is only your choice to share your past.

Thank you for being in earth in my lifetime.

Hello Paulo,

The material that we have in our hand , is originated from your spirirt, how you have lived, how you are living and how you will live. If you were an engineer who invented something, there was no expectation to know how was your past… but now you are talking to our soul, then it is your soul that talkes to us.. the same soul that has leaded you all over your life… Then I think it is not so big expectation to know more about you….

about the people who can not bear to read about realities, you should not be disappointed from them. easy come will easily go …

I liked this sentence from a freind who told me once: the value of people is equal to the mount of their not-said things..unknown secrets….

Thanks for writing for us…..

You have decided to share with your readers the ups and downs of your life in this book -The Wizard – so it is done ..you are human ,humble whilst traveling along the road and only God truly knows everything ,but we should not judge anyone from his /her past, that is what shapes a person and why they become who they are now in the present moment . It is a gift when you share yourself with others and speak the truth ..it helps you understand yourself more and helps others see that they too can become all that they where born to be -which is to be at one -content -peaceful and full of light and joy /fun .
Blessings Tania

How wonderful to know that you are only human, it makes you so much more accessible to the rest of us. It gives me hope that I too can become so much more than what I am. It gives me courage that some day I too can reveal myself without fear, because honesty and truth is the real power

There is in me a hunger to be open, totally open; there is the fear also that the small minded and petty will twist the story into something ugly and say ugly hurtful things and stomp my pearls into the mire, I am afraid my “Ego” cannot take the backlash, a sure sign of my own insecurity!

There is another wise man that counselled us not to throw our pearls before swine, but what is wise man if he cannot bring his message to the many, the same wise man also told of the many seeds

In Africa I think the ancestors percieved a danger in giving knowldege to all and maybe that is why only those who ‘sought’ were given and only after much effort and testing, and nothing was written down, only passed down from master to student

But that was then, and keeping knowledge hidden had its own backlash and now is the time for knowldege to be populist and for us to be open, for the many to Become, and it comes with all sorts of ‘dangers’ and only the true ‘warriors of light’ have the courage to stand in the pure light and be transparent to all

I hope one day to conquer my own fear, and then maybe I too can share the wisdom life has shown me, and enrich other lives

Like you are doing Paulo

I look forward to ‘The Wizard’ (what an apt title!)

Hi Paolo,

I think that people should judge your books and not your life, espacially your private life. You are a public figure and in that sense you are a writer first, then a man. A gifted one.

As to your past, about which I know nothing, it’s yours and it’s your choice to share it or not. And it’s our choice, to read about it …. or not :)

I think this is something everyone has to wrestle with as he or she gets to know another person.

First I think it comes down to a question: What is your motivation to disclose or not? And some of those motivations can be answered with questions like the following: Is it cleansing for you? Is it beneficial for your reader? Are you hiding something (and again for what purpose)? Does it give insight to someone? Can it help someone along the way? Are you overcoming something by sharing? Or are you purging for the sake of feeling free?

Ultimately then that question takes me deeper to what really matters? Who gives anything meaning? Meaning is only embedded as deep as the one perceiving it, not necessarily the one planting it. Of course the planter perceives the meaning she has planted, but beyond that the control is not hers.

Dear Paulo, it is only something you can decide and I think you, and only you, should sit with it and wrestle. Only then will your decision be made with your complete ownership and understanding and in that meaning is planted and beyond that the control is not your own.

Best,

Megan

again I copy but I agree to what I have read. This cocmes from Carlos Castaneda Tales of Power.

“It doesn’t matter wwhat one reveals or what one keeps to oneself, everything we do, everything we are, rests on our personal power.”

I am “amazed” by your question as it only reaffirms my total belief in the concept of collective consciousness. ~I have struggled with this “same question” for the last 2 days. My stock reply to your question is a resounding, “YES”. Why the hell not? I am trying to understand why it has become (or perhaps it has always been) that to truly “reveal” one’s story is stigmatized & even considered taboo. As a student of psychology, I have felt that my experiences (and they are quite rich) are part of who I am and allow me to communicate with others byway of a very empathetic portal of mutual understanding. It is this history of mine however, that has alienated me from the people I least expected to abandon me. My story makes people uncomfortable. They don’t want to hear about it. Close friends (when I had them) told me that it’s too painful to hear. ~It baffles me that I have lived through so much happiness & so much pain but that I have been quite literally “forbidden” to speak of my history. ~I would love to hear of your journey from beginning to present. I appreciate “the journey” however and it is my belief that many people don’t. Some want just to know the answers; A = C minus B. It may be that the process of is better appreciated by those who walked similar roads. I’m guessing here. I do know that what you have been through is essentially part of the person you are at this moment. It is undoubtedly important. It would pain me to discover that you had to omit parts of your history just to satisfy or make people less uncomfortable. To dance with the dragon is what it is: It is the way of the light warrior.
de verdad siempre,

I feel in some cases it is necessary to know all about someone. In your case, Paulo, I would lean towards yes. You have shared so much about yourself in your books, but there are those of us who are looking for more. And I feel it is the responsibility of those who gain certain kinds of knowledge, to pass on that knowledge. I don’t know about the rest of the world but I feel you deinitely have more to share with readers.

Dearest Paulo,
It is impossible for individuals to truly connect without learning something new or old; the operative term being truth. I have not read your biography, but I can say with the utmost confidence that any tragedy which you may have rendered in your past has value to me inasmuch as you have risen above such circumstances to the degree that you are able to deliver to me some of your most qualified sentiments. And I can say with nearly as much confidence that you might not be able to deliver in this way without those experiences, whatever they may be. I do not need to know everything about your life, but if you are ready to tell then I am more than happy to listen and to learn. Sensitivity doesn’t need something as cynical as a silver lining, it only needs to be in order to feel. Let God decide what should be.
