I thought at first that Nicolas Flamel was also a fictiional character, but further reading told me that he had been a real person, and he was known for alchemy, which was also pointed out in the Harry Potter novel. I think the Philosopher's stone is something that is found in an individual. It is a part of someone which brings out the light of all things, but is not controlled by the individual.
