When you talk about “following one’s dreams” and donating your life to the path, how do we know that the “dreams” that we believe we have are really our dreams and they weren’t given to us by other people, especially nowadays in the modern world of mass media marketing?
I do believe that a person has a personal legend to fulfill - and independent of any mass media, you know what to do. What is a personal legend? It is the reason why we are alive. We have dreams, that are not necessarily the dreams that our parents, or society has for us. So, we must get rid of the idea of fulfilling what people expect us to do, and start to do what we expect from our lives. The message in “Veronika decides to die” is that: dare to be different. You are unique, and you have to accept you as you are, instead of trying to repeat other people’s destinies or patterns. Insanity is to behave like someone that you are not. Normality is the capacity to express your feelings. From the moment that you don’t fear to share your heart, you are a free person.
Since I was 7 yrs of age my dream was to live the life of an artist . When I was 29 in 1976 I chose to ‘follow my dream’ I definately have no regrets and am living an amazing adventure . Those closest to me see me as abandoning them ( my two adult daughters) This path of following my dream has had much lonliness and sacrifice but still I have been told by many people that they admire the life I live and that I am an inspiration to them .The sacrifices are hard to bare sometimes but I would have it no other way . Living a life with purpose is a huge reward . A life where a Divine-given talent can be used to bring others pleasure and in it’s own humble way raise awareness to the beauty of this planet we share with all creatures is truly a wonderful way to journey .I am a member of ‘Artists for Conservation ” and to support this planet this way is a joy .
Open your heart and you will see..

Only if you learn to change those dreams, your life don´t chrash into chaos.
And then something amazing happens: At the moment on you handle the normal dreams, your “whish-dreams” happen into your life.

But sir with personal satisfaction there are also other social obligations on a person.I mean is Malcolm’s daughters are more important or his art?I don’t mean to offend anybody but as Paulo himself says that”The key to happiness is to enjoy the wonders of the world and not to spill the oil from the spoon”.
Moreover,if a person don’t has financial means to fulfill his dreams then what.
I would be dying for a reply.

Sometimes to live our dreams we have to start from the bottom of a pit (or hole). As one of the replys said, sometimes we have to overcome terrible feelings of hurt and worthlessness before we even can be ready to make a dream come true.
But that overcoming process is part of the dream-realisacion process.
Agnieska’s poem is so beautiful, becuase it is the sun we are looking for at the bottom of the sea, but it can sometimes take many years to find the strength to open our hearts.
Malcolm’s daughters have a wonderful model in their father, because the worst disease for all of us, is to feel like victims of someone else.
Sometimes we may call God a bastard for the pain we endure, but that is better than seeing ourselves as victims.
So, no matter how deep our hole, we can dream of climbing out, and our hearts and souls will always show us how - even in the dark.

Dear Abdul I think Malcolm’s personal dream decided for him and he accepted it. Personally I “believe” I would chose not to abandon the 2 daughters because my instinct to love & care my next of kin is stronger than my desire to fulfill a personal dream. However, if my personal dream, which is also my personal destiny, decides that I should react differently, then it will give me the required sign. Again, then it is only necessary for me to sense it and react accordingly…the choice is mine.

For me it is a very difficult question, today.. Thank you Paul from Austria ['my dream land', but as it was ...many years ago!!!], because your above answer applies to my…case…And, as Love and Light is our path, I would not ever choose to hurt anybody just because I may decide to follow my…dream. Once your are committed and connected with other soul’s destinies we cannot ..just one day change our route in order to seek Happiness. The word Duty has a very strong meaning and it may be very painful and frustrated, but it is up to us and our conscience which way to follow.. After all, what is ..a life in eternity!!Love, THELMA
