This image of the day :HAND, is a puzzle for me…I keep looking at it and try to guess. It is palmisstry, chirology, the symbols of each Greek god in every finger, The ‘burning Salamander’ at the place of the line of the burning heart.?? Maybe I will find the answer ..overnight…LOVE, THELMA
“Redrawn by J. Augustus Knapp from an 18th century water color, and is taken from Manly Hall’s “Secret Teachings of All Ages”; it was executed with the alchemical process in mind. In this illustration there is a figure of a fish which symbolizes mercury–the principle of the Spirit within the microcosm. This aquatic creature is surrounded by the element of fire that represents the psychological aspect of man, or the human soul. The rest of the fingers individually refer to the various steps of the spiritual path of transmutation of the base nature of man into the resplendent gold of divinity. Kaballistically, the hand shows the mastership of the crowned thumb (the Will) over the four worlds represented by the fingers. These four worlds are referred to as Atziluth, Briah, Yetzirah, and Assiah, or the World of Archetypes, the World of Creation, the World of Formation, and the World of Manifestation. Atop of the fingertips in Knapp’s illustration are symbols representing the various components of the microcosm: the lantern, the Concrete Mind; the Sun, the Abstract Mind; the Star, Buddhi; the Crown, Atma. The little finger holds aloft a philosophical key, which reveals the secrets of the Mysteries. It also symbolizes the etheric body, which is considered by Western Initiates as the key to occult development. The wings surrounding the hand is a sign for transcendentalism–the things of the Spirit as opposed to matter” The Hand Of Mysteries Secret Teachings of all ages
I believe I see an image of Hollandus which tells me that creature lays in our own hands,…everything is already given by the hand of God we only have to express and share what lays within the center of nature(elements)…
Psalm 118:
15 Shouts of joy and victory
resound in the tents of the righteous:
“The LORD’s right hand has done mighty things!
16 The LORD’s right hand is lifted high;
the LORD’s right hand has done mighty things!”
17 I will not die but live,
and will proclaim what the LORD has done.
Wow! That is literally the first word out of my mouth when I saw this picture! What an incredible image. Can you tell me from where this image comes? Is it from the same text as yesterday’s image of The Four Elements?
It almost has a mystical feel to it, as palms do. I’ve been told that the palm holds your past, present and future. Unfortunately, I don’t know how to read my own palm any better than I can read this image of the palm. LOL I do find this image to be so fascinating…
Another question I have about the image just occurred to me: Why is it that all the images connected with the fingers are actually touching the corresponding finger, yet the image of the crown and moon floats above the thumb and doesn’t touch it?
Yes, today’s picture does have the same artistic look as The Four Elements. I look at it like a piece of art in a gallery. For me the key represents what you have to open the different doors of knowledge; the lantern is what you use to light the way; the sun is the assistance of the Higher Light; the star is brightness that will guide you in dark times; and the crown maybe means spiritual transformation. The fish in the palm seems like nourishing the body(energy) to obtain what is at the tip of your fingers. This is only my interpretation I do not know what the actual meaning is behind this artwork. I like art.
Thank you Maria. This picture gave me more questions. But I particulary had problems to recognize the lantern as I saw a lot of objects in it.
My first sight gave me the idea it was about the Genesis and prophets, beginning with Adam to Jesus, but I think now there are many ways of seeing it.
Into the Bible, the salamander comes to give the knowledge of the Good and the Evil to the woman. To punish him, God transforms the animal into a snake, that the story tell us later, he would end into flames. Finally that animal offered man and woman science to reach the divine state. From that thumb to the key could also be: Woman, Star’s semen, Man, Judgment and paradise’s key.
Note the salamander have 4 crosses under it: the 4 paws, God cut later. It is situated above the hand, it seems. By this way, hiding the very center in hand behind flames. The center, which is said to contain microcosm and macrocosm of the whole.
Men could see in through the salamander’s knowledge bringing at his reach of hand.
But, first, the hand is the symbol of humanity. It has five fingers, that one separate it from the other animals. We could also notice that God creates Men the fifth day. And Man have 5 senses. And if we add one to the four elements we obtain 5: matter transcendanted. The result of God’s laboratary of the first picture we saw all together.
The hand is opened, so he could receive and give.
The hand offers the man to pretend to the creation. As the hand is the manifestation of thought in reality, in material world.
All attributes would be a state through which the 5th element should pass.
The two principles would have to use alchemy into Hermite’s way to have the key of a kingdom.
But if we come from animal way, the thumb coming after. So key would be also shown as the first and last gift.
The key opens doors to many lands, but especially perception. Subtil world. All have one, but not all of us know which door it opens, nor what we’ll find behind. That’s why the lantern ask for introspection, comtemplation and meditation. It could figure the head, and non action of the body, but a bound transit. It uses hidden knowledge, that only the light can show. It could be the image of initiation.
The major finger shows the sun, in what it represents of fusion. It could symbolizes astronomy, but also the work man has to do, everyday it rises, with the matter. The teaching to see with new eyes each second, being patient with the fire, that could all reduce to ashes.
It is symbolized the son, the masculine principle. It is the longer finger of all, but he’s behind the lantern and the cross.
The David cross would also illustrate the elements God used to make both principles in Men. The elements we use to transmute ourselves, and grow to break the turn of the wheel.
As to the The crown with the lys flowers and the moon above, may be the virgin or pure state men could deserve. A god, or the opportunity to become, in pure love, sublimated.
The creation is gift of creation. It is given to all of us, but indeed we have to see them, and make a gesture to reach them.
This hand (almost like the secret handshake of the societies) holds the mysteries of alchemy. For those interested, check out Hollandus’ explication of the basics of alchemical transformation in ‘The Hand of the Philosphers’.
I had a dream last night. And I remember that from the center of my right hand, I emanated Light.
I emanated Light from my palm because I was protecting myself from someone of my family who was being used by dark forces to try to hurt me. But this time, I was well protected and, when this relative tried to hurt me, I opened my hand toward her and Light was emanated from the same place in the drawing you have put here where there is a fish.
Yes I was well protected.
I also saw you holding a book. It was “The Valkiries”.

The alchemical hand, uniting the elements and showing the transformation and evolution of man. Very similar to the image yesterday in some ways.

Just curious if anyone knows the reasoning there…
