Paulo Coelho and the Winner

Today I received this box and inside of it I found my new book « The Winner is Alone » – the Brazilian edition that is coming out now in my country – and in the rest of the world throughout 2009.
As it always happens, I felt very excited about it – throughout the process of writing the book as well as seeing the physical object. It feels like a new baby and I still have the same feeling that I had when I released my first book “The Pilgrimage” in 1987.
So here’s my question of the week: What type of work gives you pleasure?

  • Meditation to the music, opening new frontiers of consciousness ( one of the options for writing), video editing … work with his hands … could it not all.

  • my work as a teacher gives me immense satisfaction when i see before my eyes, an unfocused student becoming focused and begins to enjoy ‘the lesson’ in progress..and i, then, also understand the meaning of ‘the lesson’.

It always feels like the first time when this happens.

  • Dear Paulo,
The “aha moments” that come when I connect with something you have written are priceless.
I first found Manual Of The Warrior Of Light in a bookstore in Israel. It was one of the very few books in English and I opened it. I needed it at that moment in time and felt that the universe had intervened and put it in front of me. That was in 2003. It has been on my night table since then and it has been a gift that I buy every year for someone.
Thank you for your connection with the universe, and, through that, your connecting me to the universe as well.
    You are special…………

  • Congratulations on the “new baby”. . .

What work i like the best. . .when i have worked from soul and brought forth the hidden gold. . .and when i have given my heart without any need to be acknowledged or inkling to seek return. . .

  • The most fulfilling work for me is represented by voluntary work! I love to help others, to be helpful in a way or another. It’s great when the only payment for my work is the simple fact that I enjoy it completely and others benefit from it. :-)
Besides voluntary work, I like to be a teacher very much, to communicate with all sorts of age groups, to become friends and to translate books too.
I also love writing but so far it is only a hobby for me, I’m not making a living out of it.
And how can I forget cooking? I love to cook because my attention is only there, in preparing a tasty dish but I prefer to cook alone, not to stay anyone else in the kitchen telling me what to do. I know my own pace, steady and relaxed. ;-)

Lots of good luck with your new book dear Paulo and many, many, many hugs! :-)

  • When I learn something new,I get this feeling, so strong as bright light in a dark room, I feel alive.

  • Dear Paolo, I am fortunate enough to have a profession that gives me pleasure every single day. As a photographer I capture emotions and am able to return this pleasure to my clients by immortalizing these emotions in an image. I guess the simple fact that my works brings pleasure to others is to me the greatest pleasure of all.

Thank you so much for all the inspiration you have given me, your work has helped me a lot in the development of the art of ’seeing’.

    With my warmest regards

    Ellen

  • going out and seeing people carrying one of my creations
having no idea that the person who made it is just passing by!
once i asked the universe for an idea, and as i took a bath that idea came to my mind, i never look back since then…
to all of you out there ,you hold the key for your happyness,
you just have to ask, when you want something and believe in it
the universe conspires for it to happen!!!
    live your dream,today!

  • work that gives pleasure is work that is recognized. One gets pleasure from work if his/her work is recognized by another.

  • A minha curiosidade tem feito que eu descubra novos prazeres.Prazer em descobrir e aprender. Estes dias, procurando um presente para dar ao meu pai, descobri cartas escritas a mão da minha mãe para meu pai quando eles tinham 13 anos.Devorei todas e me senti plenamente feliz.

  • Hai Paulo
Your Question is quite hard for me to answer this moment..

I just resigned, and I did love my job (besides any other aspects),but there was a moment made me choose : family or my own (career). So,family it is.. I worked by heart, and less complaint,as a result it gave me pleasure and happiness. But,on the other hand, distance kept me apart from my parents.

So all I can say now,a type of work gives me pleasure is also how I put my heart on it,and build a soul on it,and put my ego aside by standing beside my parents.

Im waiting your new book.. ^^

  • Hello,
At first I decided not to reply becouse I´m spanish and my english is not very well as you can see.
However, I wonder why I don´t try it, and here I am, trying to describe works that gives me pleasure.
I thought before in my studies becouse I´m doing first of University and I love my studies and I really love things I do there.
But after, I thought that I really love writing. It´s the best way I can explain what I feel and how I feel. My dream is to write stories, books… when I write I feel happy, and I feel that I´m alive. In fact, to keep my dream alive, I started a page to remember me what is it my real dream :)

Have a nice day and thanks for let me to write here.

  • Congratulations on the new book and for the joy it brings! Thank you in advance for the reading experience, I’m really looking forward to it.

What a nice question! It’s always good to provoke people to think of the joys of their lives, it’s also so nice to read what makes other people happy, too.

The first thing to come into my mind is the moment of putting the lights on in the film processing dark room, after having waited for about 15-30 minutes in total darkness, anticipating whether the shots are lost or whether they came out ok. Should the result be good, the next great joy is to see the negatives printed on paper as contact prints. I always spend great amount of time contemplating on what might look good as a final print, which shots work as a part of the project I’m currently working on… etc.. Then the actual printing process itself, seeing the white paper slowly turning into an image while swimming in the chemicals under the red light. And finally looking at the image in bright light, wondering what I can do better and feeling extremely happy about the things that have gone right. I realize now as I’m writing this that I really do enjoy each part of the process of making photographs, including the actual picture taking too, of course, especially if I happen to catch some flying moment.. the excitement of waiting to see if that moment is captured succesfully is very breath taking too. Then when I finally see a finished print before my eyes, one that I wouldn’t change one thing about, I can’t help but glancing it again and again, thanking the universe for making me press the button on that exaxt instant… :)

So that’s one example but in general I just love having something I’ve been putting a lot of effort in actually finished. Be it a piece of writing, a painting, a drawing, a song… Also really enjoy riding fast corners on a motorbike. And noticing that something I’ve done or said has influenced someone else positively.

  • In answer to your question : any work that gives me pleasure , that teaches me something new, any work through which I can give back what it has given me.

  • in our lives we seek answers and we get teachers. You been my teacher. I was reading a book lately and I found my thoughts wandering to you. Iam not obsessed by you, and since I believe that there are no coincedences in life, I would like to request you to read this book : The Pregnant King by Devdutt Pattanaik ; somehow I feel this will reveal an insight into a question that has been alluding you.

Forgive me if I seem abrubt. I know no other way coz I have walked the path you have….salutations

  • Ah okay I see that it didn’t work the first time.
Paulo, the biggest pleasure in work for me now is my new song!
I once wrote you personally that I’ve been writing my own songs,
and now I’m happy and proud to let you hear my music!
    Have a listen to http://www.myspace.com/SteffenHaust

That song and the others express my joy for life and love. It gives me great satisfaction to be 100% ME and to be able to express my joy through music. Hope you like it.
Take care and I’m really excited about your upcoming book “The Winner is alone”. I’m really glad you have written another book!

    Have a nice Sunday!

  • Writing, if we may call it “work”; as I’m a physian not a writer.

  • I’ve just sent a reply on what kind of work gives me pleasure.
Can’t see it written here, so I don’t know if it worked posting you

  • What type of work gives me pleasure?
It’s my work as a teacher in an elementary school. Why? The following story will reveal it:

Shortly we had a project in our school titled “Travel around the world”. I had the theme “Africa” and for one week lessons were all about this continent. I invited a friend of mine in my class, an African, who lives here in Saarbrücken, but spend his childhood in Mali.

The children were very interested and asked him many questions about his life there. Of course they wanted to know exactly how school was in Africa. He told a lot about his schooldays and he mentioned that disciples used to adore their teacher. “He was half a god (Can you say demigod in English?) to us”, he told, “and when I return to Mali today, I always visit him and ever thank him for my education, because he set the fundament for my career. “ The children were impressed by these words.

Two weeks later, it was the last day of school before summer holydays, I dismissed my class and before leaving, a little girl stopped in front of me and said: ”Before I go, I still want to tell you something.” “Yes, I listen to you”, I replied. She was all smiles and then said: “For me you are a “Three-quarter-god” and then she left.

Wish you a good-humoured new week
    Monika ;-)

  • DJing!!!
