Blakes poetry was far better than his drawing
But it depicts his ideas which were born in a time of mathematical renaissance that is in itself nice, shaping the world with a compass. It is a little de-mystifying the modern version would be with a laptop with a graphics program on it.

The wise elder of the Sun ….He Shares Life and Passion … the creative spark that can warm or burn…the beginning
lighting the darkness… Beams of Faith and Purpose seeking a earth/ space vehicle to express all

So, Ancient of days is a name for God in Aramaic. The painting makes me think of the common answer when anybody is asked to describe their own image of God; He looks like an old man with a long beard.

The ultimate Light. The painting shows great colours to represent the strong energy released by God when at work. Blake also seem to show from his painting that this power is gentle, wise, and breaks through darkness.

Wasn’t it Blake who said “all religions are one?” I haven’t read him since college, which was a while ago, but I used to love his poetry. Thanks for reminding me of his existence. Amazing how you can lost touch with things that have great meaning for you:-)

Urizen

from Wikipedia: Urizen is the embodiment of conventional reason and law

“He receives much of his characterization from popular conceptions of Yahweh, the god of the Old Testament. The name may come from “You Reason” or “Your Reason”, i.e., the accepted wisdom of the age; or from the Greek horizein, “to set limits”; or, conceivably, from both equally. Not a benevolent character, Urizen oppresses Orc, who embodies revolutionary passion and creativity, and who serves as a suffering saviour figure. He is also an enemy of Luvah, the spirit of love”.

I’ve got Ackroyd’s biog of Blake, am looking forward to reading it.
