A "rock on the rough" can become a good building block on which you can establish a good solid basis.

The association of the Rock just brought back a memory from my early childhood, one of my earliest memories, from when I must have been three, four years old. Together with a neighbor girlfriend, we would go visit a pretty big rock, located nearby our home. My mother would send some food, some cookies, that we carried on the "trip", and when we arrived the big rock, we would sit down and eat them. My recollection of it, was that it was a long, long walk, and I felt a long way from home. Then years later, when I was much older, I once saw this rock again, and it was not far from my grandparents house at all! The little trip that had felt like an eternity for a toddler, was just a few meters for the older girl. Funny experience.

If rock is about being like a novice, we are all rocks. Who could say the time it had take from rocks to precious stones? Though who could say what's the more exalted or the elder of the two?

Ancient, Gibraltar, hardness, difficulty, erosion, stratum, sediment, cavern, mountain, aridity, stasis, climbing, warmth and cold sensitivity, mountains, meteor, holes, empty and full together, assembly, silence, mute, strength, Excalibur's cave, Peter, dolmens, sculpture, architecture, some hearts, untractable but mutable by time

For me, the rocks are the symbol of power. Maybe because I'm from India.I remember during childhood, we used to go to visit one of my aunt, whose house was over a small hill. Then we would go around the hill and admire and BIG sized rocks, huge in fact, lying there always, standstill. We used to give name to these rocks too.

I know rocks to be the bones of the earth where all memories and histories are stored. Like our own bones that gather our experiences and store them for all generations to come, rocks are the same. Rocks are sacred texts that can sooth and anchor us when most we need something to lean on or to remember who we are.

Without rocks we have nothing to stand on. Rocks are the ground beneath us, they are the people we can rely on, they are the stability of our life, both literally and figuratively. Without the ground beneath our feet and the strong people within our lives our existence would be different.

A rock is created by God, it is up to humans to make it into a stone and build with it a house or a temple.

"Atiraram tanta pedra em meu caminho...
Que com elas construí o meu altar...
A lei divina manda só fazer o bem...
Pros inimigos no altar eu vou rezar...
Para aqueles que só sabem jogar pedras...
Como resposta...
Peço a Deus pra perdoar..."

Nestes versos tão singelos foi a primeira associação que me veio a cabeça.

In the bible is written that the stone to reject is choosen to be the head of the wall, it's something happened to many people. Maybe they are considered loosers by lots of superficial people, and then when you know them you realize that they are much better. So are we really able to know the kind "stone" we are made of?
Maybe only through the pilgrimage of our life.

Rocks -stones ,gems and crystals for me all included the following -balance ,strength ,healing and stability .Also I love the little flat rocks that you can skip across a pond or lake and watch the ripples , also they are jewels used in many crowns , breast plates and so forth -also good for rituals -clear crystal quartz is used for telecommunications watches ,radio signals ,crystals and stones have special powers the Bulgarians also have a Sphinx to which they climb and put questions to .It is a massive slab of granite rock that sits impassively looking out across a vast valley..like others areas in the world it contains ageless wisdom like in Egypt .Here is a prayer I love taught by the Bulgarians
The disciple must have a heart as pure as a crystal.
A mind as bright as the sun.
A soul as vast as the universe
and a spirit as powerful as God and one with God.
Love Tania

A rock symbolizes time…and patience…
A rock once was a part of a mountain, but with time, it became smaller and smaller, and broke off of the mountain, and became a rock…
And patience, because the only thing that can actually affect a rock is water…but again, flowing water needs time, and patience to be able to affect the rock..
But given time, a mountain can become a canyon, and a rough rock can become a smooth stone..

Rock - has several meanings for me and they are : _

My husband, Peter, the name means 'rock' - and he is a person who is steadfast, immovable (to the detriment at times!), and my mainstay in my life. Someone who's mere existence makes me know 'all will be okay'. He is not going anywhere, without me!

Rocks represents something solid in my existence. Rocks are a building block and if I put one on top of another, could it reach to heaven? The imagination soars with the possibility!

The rock that was rolled against Jesus's tomb. No matter how heavy the burden, the belief that Jesus died and rose to save me, humbles my mere existence!

Rocks represent hurdles to overcome. Jagged, everest-like monoliths in contrast to, a smooth, sea-washed pebble that had its origins in larger rock edifice. With childish wonder, I accept its simplicity as a building block for life and imagination.

Rocks will exist beyond my lifetime, eroded but beautifying the landscape and one does not exist without seeing a sunrise over that big rock called 'Uluru" in Central Australia'. Its power and its magical mystery, long known among the Aboriginals living in the area. Another rock in Western Australia, the Whispering Wall, beautiful in its rainbow colours and amazing with its capacity project sound - empheral, a keeper of secrets.

From mere solid existense can come real beauty. It lies in the eyes of the beholder ...

Never, never underestimate the power of the rock .............

Rocks . . . in free association ...

In the mining districts of Brazil, a deep dark hole in the ground is all that is between you and fragile stones of green cherished and admired as emeralds. There, deep below the ground, under unimaginable pressure, stuck in a matrix of quartz, an emerald grows. It grows like a pearl, like a ruby or sapphire, hidden there like the spot of yang surrounded by the increasing yin.

Like deep-sea divers, the miners disappear in these holes of darkness. Your heart races and your breath quickens in sympathetic claustrophobia. And they do eventually return to the surface shading their sensitive eyes from the light. Sometimes their hands bring up the secret of the universe.

On the surface, the color green is the magical result of photosynthesis -- a process still hidden from duplication by the machinations of science. But, from hundreds and hundreds of feet into solidity, in darkness that has never seen the light of day, out comes a green rock that shines a cappella when faceted to the sun.

These stones, these gemstone rocks are alive. They grew! Like Indra's Net, they reflect the totality -- even while compressed and hidden deep under the tonnage of the overburden. They remind us that there is always light in the most oppressive of dark. One has to dig deep to find it, but it's there.

These stones, these rocks may disguise themselves as jewelry, simple reflective accessories to vanity. But, we know them as living reflections of forever.

All the best to you,

When I think of rocks, a couple things come to mind. Once a woman gave me a crystal ball "reading" and somewhere in this reading she told me that I should keep 4 stones on my desk, a yellow one, a black one, a red one and a white one. I can't remember the reason for keeping these particular colors, but yes, I do have these stones on my desk, as well as others that have found their way into my hands over the years.

Like many have already mentioned, change is something I associate with rocks. In fact, I have a stone that is polished which I came across it several months ago and really connected with it because the word "change" was stamped into it. This is one of the rocks that I now keep in my desk. Whenever I see it, I'm reminded that change is neverending and that it is important to be open to the possibilities that open up to us through the process of change.

When my sons were small we could not come home from a walk without being laden with stones and small rocks. Years later I have spent wonderful hours with my granddaughter collecting stones and rocks and lugging them home to put in the garden or on window sills. Now I spend my hours of solitude walking along the beach in all kinds of weather looking at the bountiful variety of rocks, all shapes and sizes, and occassionally rewarding myself with one or two. To me rocks are a mystery. Who knows where they came from or how long they have been there. They remind me of all things on the earth, trees, plants, people, and the planets, one big glorious mystery to be enjoyed.

The rock is where i hold on to when times are rough- The rock keeps me grounded, lends me gravity and anchors my heart and mind when sometimes i float too much....
The rock has always been an image or ideal of love for me....A man Whom can be there-
Forever......

I was wading through shallow beach water with my son recently, we were looking for unusual stones and special shells, I was trying to explain to him about how old the sea is and how much older still are all the things that are in the sea! he was a little confused to say the least, it was lovely moment and I remember thinking how much absolute pure love I felt for him and the world.

While I was pondering life/love it occured to me that the sand I was looking at was once a stone, and the stone was once a rock, and that rock was once a boulder, the boulder was part of a mountain and the mountain part of a landscape, the landscape part of a region and the region may once have been part of a country or continent that has since changed. I was reminded of the timelessness of the universe and life and how no one thing exists in any one form forever.

Rocks therefore are a reminder of how things are always changing and evolving, they are a reminder of the eternity of all things and of the chance of always becoming something new - and more than this they will forever remind me of a moment of pure love between a father and son - nothing will ever feel any better than that.

Rocks are tiny chips that turn into stone the development of mountains...for me that represent strong families. . . .or used to. The tiniest drop of water that consistently, drops . .plops. . .splashes can destroy a rock . . .create a sea that will level that same moutain. Amazing that such a hard and seemingly impervious substance than be completely changed by a harmless substance. Have u not been poked by a rock in the sand only to find that the smoothest ones are near the water where the tided constantly rises. The stream of information that constantly enters our lives rubbing over our values and mores has all but eroded the rocks of value that once built our loves and lives . .much like the plip, splosh, drip of a small break in a rocky summit that has all but drowned things that really matter...

In the eras of Atlantis and Lemeuria, crystals were perceived to hold incredible power, that human beings could tap into. Rocks have since gained other kinds of significance. Yet, the innate power and personlaity of different kinds of rocks is the key to remembering our origins and inner power that has been forgotten.

The Rock is one of the elements of the Earth and what could really transform it, really, are elements of the Earth too --- like water and fire. These things will destroy the rock as we know it, but it makes us ask: Does the rock feel destroyed? Or does it merely feel it has transformed?

when i think about rocks i think about stuburness, about being strong, even after being beaten, thrown, washed away, etc. like the saying.... "Strong as a rock." It also reminds me about eternity and mystery, because of the many things you can get from rocks from the past. =)

And the idea of being a novice reminds me of the cycle of life, and nature. Because soil is produced through the withering of rocks, and once the soil is set life starts to grow, as birds go by and poops *lol* they put nutrients in the soil and bacteria starts to grow and plants too, because they eat seeds so they put it back into the soil and a whole ecosystem starts to form! =)
Therefore a rock means evolution/change.
