Today’s Question by Aart Hilal

If not a writer what would you be?

It’s interesting that you ask this question because I wrote a column about the way I felt about the release of The Witch of Portobello. I was in Lisbon, just hours before the book was released in Portugal and in Latin America. I was walking along the streets of this marvelous city thinking about the moment when the first reader would touch the book in the shelves of the bookstore. I was excited and realized that I was still able, after publishing many books, to feel exactly the same way as in the release of my first book, The Pilgrimage. Of course, with success, the dimensions change but the inner feeling of sharing my soul with others remains intact. I’m living the dream I had in my youth but I never look upon this dream as something that has an end. As long as I’m able to live, think and love the spark will continue.

  • My dear Paul from Austria, how exciting Aviation is! At least, you are nearer to the….stars, more than us!
I have never dreamt of having Music as a profession..To be a teacher, or more a Professor of Music, would be a failure and treason to my …dream. It is as if trying to put a nightingale in a cage…. To earn momey from performing music, means that you have to sell your Soul to the System. I know there is a system, as in everything on Earth, that decides and governs the.. Stars. So it is better to live an ordinary person’s life with a Dream in our Soul, than a ‘false’ life. The music of our souls, is our treasure. LOVE, Thelma

  • My profession is Aviation & having attempted another profession in which could not unfortunately sustain my existence, I returned to Aviation. I did try something else at least… but my true heart’s desire has always belonged to music, who knows what would have happened if I had chosen music as a profession… maybe I would have been a… star? ;)

Love, & reach for the… stars, Paul

  • He answered the question. he is a writer and that is only way he can be. Otherwise he would have been anything, that does not matter . what matter what is path , some people can find or actually realize it, others just go on living.
Ask your mind , not the mind that is given by society.

  • I asked once an Irish man: What is your proffession? He said, ‘I am a writer’. I looked at him with disbelief, because I thought that this was not a profession!!
Poor friend, Gerry O’Malley -he is dead now- he had to send me an article from a magazine in order to prove me, he was saying the truth!!
Dear Paulo Coelho, for me to be a writer means to have an artist’s soul, to be and live as a POET.
    LOVE,
    Thelma
