John Lennon in his song “God” makes a list of things he doesn’t believe in to then say to all – he, who was the idol of his time – that he only believed in himself and Yoko.
So here’s my question : do you think that in order to believe in yourself you have to renounce first to all other beliefs?

I beleive that in believing very little, I’ll learn very much. Even about myself.
Besides, John Lennon did not say he believed in Yoko, but that he does not believe in Yoko. Later in the song he said : “I just believe in me, Yoko AND me” Never forget the “AND”… Two persons together are something else than the sum of the two separately…
I just believe he wanted to give fans a grip. I believe his ‘god’ is in their minds. We all choose our prophets.
God is a concepte yes according to jhon lenon , abviously jhon lenon is an artist and he sings through himself , and see through his heart and feelings… he see things through himself …. and this is not always true what we think jhone…

in my opinion -in contrast to Nietzsche’s belief for example-when you believe in God no matter who your God is you automaticaly believe to yourself because you think there’s a reason you’re in this world,a reason why your soul is in a human body.
In order to believe in me, I have to forget about everything I believe, because surely believe it wrong. What it is outside it is inside too and vice versa, but I won’t be able to see if I don’t forget first. Yes, forget about everything I believe, about every one I believe in, but in me.

I looked at the word Liver pool
and it reminded me of the article by Dr Soulier
that says about our body “the liver is the energy and the Creative factory”

Never need to renounce anything. :) In fact, the more you open yourself to the beliefs and ideas around you, the stronger and the more sure you become within yourself.
According to where you need to be in your journey in life, you will pick and choose the ideas and philosophies that will help you make the most of the situation at hand. Just don’t pick with your eyes closed, nor choose with your hands over your ears. :)

Faith in Allah Almighty n Belief in urself its all waht we need.truely :)
Many societies do not engender belief in oneself, particularly for female children. Then, if one is surrounded by abuse,poverty, etc it is impossible to think oneself as one’s authority, the lack of or the pain become the symbols of the gods.
Idolatry in itself is another matter entirely. I’ve known many people who consider themselves the masters of their universe but were not, it was hubris. I’ve known others who worshiped a God but were masters of nothing because they waited for God to resolve any matter.
It doesn’t need to be an either/or. It can be a both/and. When one is one’s own HERO, one can impact lives greatly. That is different from counting a loving universal creator out altogether. Balance…

i agree with u. I’v seen many people around me who are passively inhibited to develop there own individuality and at the same time there are people who get lost due to excess liberties while ther developmental phases. I wonder can a measure be defined for maintaining a balance?

People- there’s a misstake in this translation -it’s ‘ I don’t believe in gita’ ( as in Bhagavad Gita – the holy hindu book)not ‘I don’t belive in guitars’.

i really think Lennon was blinded by this woman… she wasnt a good influence for him… and i believe in God.. and not just because of that i doesnt believe in myself? guess he was just confused.. shame he didnt look at his side.. and watch the type of woman he had… i think is just a shell… thinking he was the king of everything… he used that “Ego” to hide his fears.. well… thats my opinion…

A veces cuando no tienes apoyo de cualquier tipo( familiar, económico ,etc) pues en vez de creer en tí mismo, crees más en Dios para que te saque del hoyo en el que estás . . .

I know that for me it is true that I often take outside opinions/facts more important than what I think. especially when I am a beginner.
I can imagine that focusing on oneself in this way can make oneself ego-centered, and one’s universe is becoming small. thus, awareness of doing it is important.
I know where I stand with my internal environment. I think it is a nice way to try it out as an antidote. it’s a great practice. and of course, it will be done in “silence” and not forced on others.

I believe if we taught people to believe in themselves before believing in religion this would simplify things a lot.
I think to believe myself/oneself is long time process; it’s like building a house…placing bricks one after another or a Pyramid.
If you through out all the bricks that you’ve already placed then you ave to start all over again.
So, if you first renounce all other beliefs that you’ve adopted after all those years and all the experiences you’ve gone through… then it means you just lost the believe that you had in yourself all those years.
Maybe you’ve just found something new and work on through with it right from the beginning; which is just a start of believing yourself…I guess.

I think he must have forgotten about that. I honestly think he does not fully understand the deeper context of Belief or Faith for that matter. He was stuck with the idea of idolism. But neither belief nor faith has ever touched his soul… I think to believe is to know God. It’s the simplest example there will ever be. Believing someone Who cannot be physically seen. No wonder he was tagged as an Anti-Christ those times… tsk tsk tsk

Who are we to tell someone what’s right, what’s wrong, who to believe in and who not to believe in. Your perception of ‘God’ or ‘Divine Intelligence’ will always be different from someone else’s, because you are 2 different human beings who have walked different paths and experienced different things.
At the end of the day, we all want the same thing: to receive Love and to give Love back. So, go about it your own unique way; as long as every step you take, every word you speak, every gesture you make is inspired by your Love with-in in order to spread it with-out, everything will be all right.
I found your views contradictory Its true that we all want to give and take love.. The most important thing to understand is ..only an individual who has LOVE and beleive in himself/ herself can spread the feeling of give and take LOVE to someone who has not received in his/her life. A person who beleive in and who has treasure of love can give ray of hope to others. love does not inspired by someone’s experiences, gestures or words it has divine vibes not “divine intelligence” which exists in the presence of that individual who beleive in that he/ she is brimming with Love to share. With that hope and belive he/she could say to someone that which one is the right and real path to belive in.
To belive in yourself is one of the most important things in life. I wish i belived more in myself since i always wanted to be a “light warrior”. But the roas is still ahead…

how can i believe in my myself and nothing else? i cant get my mind around that. i believe in God and believing in him makes me believe in myself. i am because he is. he show me who i am. no one should stop beliveing on what is true. love, joy, peace, harmony,family, purpose, eternity,God,passion,life. i believe in all those things and it does not hold me back in any way. i can do all things in christ. he lives in me, i live in him, so why wouldnt i believe in myself?

to believe in ourselves we first have to belive that we are the drops of the ocean called God. we have all the powers god has and god has given the right of using it in whichever way we want. “we are spiritual beings having a human existence”(as said by Robin Sharma). faith is all we need to create miracles.
