Today’s Question by Aart Hilal

What is your message to your readers especially Indian readers? Any mantras for making their lives doubly meaningful and satisfying?

I’ve never seen myself as someone giving away mantras for making other people lives more satisfying. I’m not responsible for others.

Freedom is exactly that: people making their decisions by themselves, not giving it away for a “guru” to answer and decide for them.

I think the best advice is always to not follow advices. Try life by yourself.

I’m just a man that has gone in the direction of his personal legend, taking risks and learning daily from all around me.

everyone has to “try life by themselves”, is there any other way, can someone else try my life for me. even when i am following or not following anyone’s advise, choice, freedom and responsibility remains mine.

    viloleta, hi,

arn’t u chaps too sensitive, in saying what i have said, why should it amount to being mad at paulo ! i saw the folly or the potential to be interpreted incorrectly an advise by Paulo who i wm well aware is respected and loved by many, including myself. I had to say it, risking ire from adoring fans. paulo has hmslef been seeking and acting on advisees from many people, M and others. anyway.

smile, yes !!! u said it. what else.

  • Use your mind. Listen to everyone, look at all the seekers and all the guides, but at the end use your mind, to you own self be true.

Take a close look at the sermon on the battlefield- smile- as an Indian you know what I’m taking about- this is what it said to me.

Your interpretation may be different- so it may well be- and we all have that freedom, do we not?

  • Dear THELMA,

Paulo won’t mind, if one looks at the essense of what i was trying to say, one may see that the most direct, penetrating way would be what i have tried. i love paulo and have been vocal in appreciating what he is doing, but paulo is no god, he too can make mistakes, and as a ‘ferind’ it’s all of our duty to point out; paulo is an evolving soul, maybe more rapidly than most of us here. i spoke in amnner i speak with freinds, no question of ego. of course i may be wrong in which case paulo and to whomever i am addressing myself will ignore me, that too is fine.

there is a reason, maybe subconsious reason, behind choosing indians, afterall india has the only civilisation in the world, whose origins are older than others and origins are somewhat obscure, worship of divine mother has been an integral part of our culture.

i was not offended, i was merely stating that paulo may have made a mistake, and i genuinely felt thankful towards aart, which i said also.

thank u Thelema for shwoing your concern.

love ( and forgiveness ?????, when one loves what is to forgive, or to say it like this only after one has forgiven can one love )

  • this is the first aart’s question that i don’t really fancy, but i guess she has a point i might see later. paulo’s answer is in line with everything that he has said before and we the readers have witnessed in his books. good to remind ourselves. always.

aditya dear, if you believe that somebody else should decide for you go, for it – nobody stops you. why are you mad with paulo? have you noticed how many people love and respect him? don’t you notice you’re offending everybody here? what’s your point? if there is a point…

as thelma said, love and forgiveness

  • Dear Aditya,
I have just read everything you had written above, and just because you have mentioned my name,{I believe Thelema means THELMA}, I feel obliged to ask you why you were so ‘angry’ and offended.??
Our friend Paulo Coelho, our host here, is a writer and has given us his books to read and by using our judgement to accept his ‘truths’. We are free to use our Mind of accepting or denying whatever we think is not right. I also think that Aart Hilal’s question was in a way a ‘discrimination’ but this happens so many times when we try to express ourselves in a foreign language.
    Love and forgiveness,
    Thelma

  • HI aart,

a damn interesting question u have asked. this is the first time u have asked for advise for any particular ‘group’ of people, Indian readers, should we indians we thankful, i guess we should, so thanks for asking your question to paulo for “your readers especially Indian readers”.

    Now paulo bhai !

after a long time u have given a really foolish answer, happens sometimes, specially when u are on the move and have deadlines to meet, and fame too is accused of robbing one of one’s discrimination, not to speak of money !! in due course.

“I think the best advice is always to not follow advices. Try life by yourself. ” i agree to the second part try life yourself, good ! but why should anyone be aginst giving and following advise. u were folliwng someone’s ( M?) advise at some point of time, against your better judgement ! seee bhai, we indians love to give advise ( should be amply clear by the constant flow of ‘advisers, those holy men ,) so don’t jeopardise our business by telling people not to follow advise; most people anyway don’t follow advise, no need to tell anyone separately. had people followed advise, of say Zesus, commandments won’t have been nevessary. freinds ! fear not ! and give advise to your freinds, fellows, strangers, anyone ! to advise is your responsibility, whether its taken or not is not in your hand ! what do u think Buddha kept on doing all those years after, his ‘enlightenment’.

and paulo, have u treid any mantra, do u feel qualified enough to comment on mantras. in this Thelema seems more on the right track, it’s about awareness, unless u are with some level of awareness, u cannot maintain a constant stream of mantra ” jesus help” or whatever. Thelema, it would have been wonderful, had u said, this is what scripture says, and this is what I have tried so far, and these are my findings, it would have been beneficial for u. we are getting benefitted merely by listening to what u have said, whether tomorrow we say quoting you or quoting ourselves, is our responsibility.

after all the ‘abuses’ paulo, i must say, u r dead right when u say “try life by yourself” that is the only way, borrowed knowledge may make one good orato, but it is still borrowed, from maybe Buddha, Zesus, God whoever, it’s not one’s own ‘expereince’

  • Dear Paulo Coelho, you are, for sure, a person full of warmth and love and you have given us your whole philosophy and self, with your books and everyday communication and as Jesus said: ‘Those that have ‘ears’ will hear’…
I have read so many ‘metaphysical books in my life,’searhing for the Truth and always expecting to find the key to …wisdom. Alwyas, the ‘right’time or minute, the authors were….silent. I was always thinking : ‘Has anyone found the key ?’
About Mantras : In Orthodox religion it is said that you can be in constant communication with the Divine by mentally repeating ‘Jesus Christ help me’ or just by thinking LOVE, with the whole meaning.

  • I feel everyone requires a guide at least to put them on the road of finding there personal legend. Or most of it to make others aware that there is a life ahead….

  • Indeed, it’s everyone’s business to take things for themselves. The risk is to loose oneself.

  • I appreciate that your advice is to not follow advice. “Try life by yourself.” Short, direct, to the point, and very easy to follow.

  • I dont think anyone can give advices unless they are pretty sure of what they are talking about. They might just ruin someone else’s life without even realizing it.
