By Paulo Coelho

The Lord smiles contentedly
because this what He wants,
that everyone should take responsability
for their own lives.

Is good to keep the idea in mind.Only we can do what is right for us,no one can feel for us,nor decide, nor be responsible in our place.Bye

  • God gives us blessings and it is up to us what we’re going to do with it.

That’s why we have free will, right?

God guides us as we experience life and everything in it and God smiles as he sees us do good and he redirects us if we stumble in an unfamiliar path or if we go astray.

  • I guess God gave us free will so that we can be responsible for our actions.

Thanks for sharing this quote, Mr Coelho

  • My dear friends, all your beliefs and thoughts and wishes and words complete the “puzzle” of the World..We are all connected in a way..like the pieces of a puzzle..So what you say is mostly welcome to me, cause we are all the same..humans..trying to be warriors of Light..

And dear Satora, small things definitely count..να εισαι καλα και συ..

And whatever anyone says, ideas can change the world..i do believe that..

    Love to all of you

  • Hi Paulo,

I’ve been feeling a bit lost and feeling a little sorry for myself lately (which is not usual for me). Often I put a brave face on things when all I want to do is cry and run away. That quote made me think, only I can live my life and therefore it’s my responsibility to take control of my life. I have n’t yet read The Fifth Mountain (I have read some of your books, most recently Brida which spoke volumes to me in recent times. At times I felt like Brida))I think it is time for me to read the Fifth Mountain now. You have a real gift.

    Best wishes,

    Liola

  • Dear friends,
    No offence taken,
I guess we are somehow all bound in this blog and if I use “I” it is because there are too many people hiding behind “we” and we are not doing it, this is our own space and our own thoughts that we are sharing between us thanks to Paulo’s work and questions.
We are all individuals and I love this as we are confronting us within and out, and why not.
Egoism is not part of me but if somebody think I am it does not bother me.

I take responsability for my own life and, as Paulo has writen, Lord smiles !

    With love and understanding,
    Luce

    P.S. Paulo, Thank you, thank you….infinitely !!!

  • We are all supposed to of derived and belong to the race of Homo Sapiens which translated from the latin means wise man, or knowing man.

Does this title still apply to the human race today?

  • Dear Annie,

I am not attacking you - It is very simple if you want to change something you change yourself. Nothing else works…

You will not be able to prevent all the bad things that are happening in the world - this is sheer impossible, but at least in your daily life you can try to be a couragious warrior. The small things count: a smile, saying please and thank you, saying I love you , I forgive you ….getting up in the bus and giving your seat to an elderly person. Helping an older woman across the street….. Just be kind!

What “we” do is the sum of all the “I’s”. The more “I’s” change so will the “group - we” change - for it is contagious.

    Na eisai kala,

    Satora

  • Dear Annie,
Nobody is attacking you…everybody is sharing their truth.
Beautiful to read all these comments. Thank you.

…and Heart yes we need humor too while we go on being responsible and smile.

It’s so good to look inside of myself and see what I do wrong to myself and others in that way I see the world with a wider eye which gives me a smile in my heart.

  • Last night I missed..the discussion.. I went to a concert.Too modern and loud ,,for my ears, anyway!
Reading above I understand what dearest Annie expresses. Indeed indifference is the worst. If you have hate then you ‘think’of love, if you have anger, war then peace may come. Indifference is ..cold blood. We do not care, we do not vibrate, we do not have any feelings.
Responsibility is a sign of maturity. In our church, after the christening the priest gives the child to the mother saying: Take mother your chil..,and you must take care of him until the age of seven.. It is our responsibility interwoven with love.
    LOVE,
    Thelma

  • Dear Satora, if you had read my comment above yours, you would see that i believe in free will..
I dont know why all of you attack me, i didnt accuse anyone..And by saying “we” i was refering to humans…to people..i even didnt exclude myself…And because no man is an island, nothing can be done by oneself..That is why i said WE..
Saying I and I and I instead of we, is totally selfish…

  • Dear Ninni,

” Only when we can understand - and i mean REALLY understand - deeper - that we are different - and need different salutions…….
Only then - we can start to talk about the language of. LOVE. ”

    - YES.

    and Dear Annie,

You didn’t offend me, I was thinking in general, mostly trying to notice those - differences - around , Ninni is writing about; to see not only from my perspective, but those who are living around me, etc..
    and…
it is easy to say - heal the world and it will help to heal yourself; it’s true in a way, but :

“In order for peace to exist in a world, the nations should live in peace,
in order for nations to live in peace, one city cannot stand against another,
in order for city to have peace, the neighbors should understand one another,
in order for peace to be at home, one should find it in his/her heart.”
Lao Tsu - from “Be like a flowing river” Paulo Coelho

    and also….
I believe in my heart, that if we show that we care..over and over again..others will notice and there won’t be no indifference in them anymore..
all we need is to open our hearts and spread kindness.

hate…when takes actions and it usually does, unfortunatelly…keeps on hurting..and many times brings…wars.

love and peace to you all,
    Agnieszka

  • Yes we must take responsibility for all our actions , towards others ,ourselves and the planet .The Good Lord smiles as like any parent we are pleased when our children ,take responsibility and stop blaming parents ,siblings or friends for everything wrong in their life ..We are human and at some time or another have hurt ,blamed ,felt abandoned ,accused , felt ashamed ,betrayed ,been heartbroken ..But point is ,it does not have to stay that way - change your beliefs and replace your thoughts with Love ,forgiveness and Joy ..
For as we know what we give out,we get back ..Love Tania

  • There is something worse than hate…indifference…

    [Reply]

  • My comments on the quote are that being an adult and thus responsible for our actions and life (and sometimes for others’ lives because our actions affect others)is very hard. Everyone realizes the responsibility underneath, because every decision brings consequences. Even if we didn’t mean to meet these consequences in the first place, they are still there to remind us that we are responsible for what we decided to do..And behimd these responsibilities, there are leasons to learn..when we do learn them, Lord is happy…

    [Reply]

  • Dear Annie,

Have you wondered why the Lord is smiling contentedly?
He gave us free will. Therefore, everyone is responsible for his or her actions. Good or bad deeds, but in the end it is your choice and you have to take full responsibility.

I have to take responsibility for my life and you for yours.
I can change my actions – you can change yours.
I cannot change your actions - nor can you change mine.
If you want to change something, you start by changing yourself.

Do not assume that others are not taking responsibility for their actions, just because you do not approve them or they contradict your belief system. Nothing you do is without consequence – nothing at all. You pay a price somewhere….

  • Dear Agnieszka,

If we assume that everybody has the same ability - i.e . the same intellectuall capacity, born under equal circumstances, the same ability to create central coherence, the same perception, the same motivation, the same ability to have imagination, the same ability to take another persons perspectiv ….and that no one has difficulites in these areas or in the theory of mind……..maybe….we all could talk the same language all over the world. The language of love. But it isn´t enough. NO.

    Without beeing judgemental.

Because - we are different as human beeings - with different abilitys - and therefore we need -different languages - different invirements - to “develope” our human hearts - in a positiv direction….and not become filled with……hate towards yourself or the people around you….because of lack of understanding or competens…..or respect around these differences.

Love doesn´t automatically - give you the ability to understand….everyone…..which is neccassary sometimes to accieve …….positiv results. To accieve. Love. Beginning from the beginning.

Experience and knowledge and individuall language- around certain areas - cultures - diseases - handicaps - is neccassary - to accieve. Positiv development….all around….

And that….creates LOVE and trust - as a result of that……common responsibility.

Only when we can understand - and i mean REALLY understand - deeper -

that we are different - and need different salutions…….

Only then - we can start to talk about the language of. LOVE.

  • Dear Agnieszka and Luce, i m sorry , didnt want to offend you in any way…sorry if i did…i didnt understand how i did it!!
What i said wasnt to judge anyone..Anyone has the free will to do as he/she wishes..
But i dont believe that one should wait to make peace with himself and heal his wounds and then heal the world..then it will be too late…i believe that by healing the world he can heal his wounds too..with Love… it is as the alchemists did..when they were trying to transform metals into gold, they were transformed into ‘gold’ too..
Is it only few that hear that Earth is in pain??
My dear Ninni, thank you for your points mentioned…some people are more in need than others..especially children…
We are all responsible…not only for our lives…but also for those who will live in this world after us..

    Love and Graditude
    Annie

    [Reply]

  • my mistake…:-)
sometimes we do judge…when (and even those) we love, but it may be because we’re either…hurt and/or.. we assume things, and that again only shows that we’re human..and we make mistakes like everybody else.

  • Luce - NO, taking responsibility of your life doesn´t put you in the jungle law - but if we actually believe that we are ALL the same - and that everyone of us - is capable of doing the same. We are. And travel. Blind.

Some people will always be children. Inside. And will need others to take responsibility and create some kind of meaning and lifequality for them. Or they will. Die. I think of the mentally retarded - as one example. Of many.

And Annie. I agree with you. We shouldn´t let go - of the paradise. Actions are and will be. Neccassary.

    Thank you.

  • Oh my..my..
my dear Annie, there are no people without a heart!
and they, we, everybody have emotions, feelings.
Sometimes maybe there’s no compassion etc.. but how can you blame anyone who for example many times struggle to have food on the table for themselves or/and their children, or who fight for love, for partnership, for peace in their relationships? How can they go on to the world and fight for peace, justice, if they don’t have it at home, or in their hearts.
I am sure of one thing dear Annie, that if they had, they would care more and more, but in order to heal the world you need to find peace in your own heart and heal the pain.
And also, we should be careful with judging anyone, for we never know the circumstances and …we can be judged too.
“those who are without a sin..you can throw the stone..”
Judging is (I’m sorry to say it to you) not loving, but.. I am sure that you didn’t mean to judge. I know because it happens to me once in a while; to say something that I would have never meant to be hurtful; but that’s human, isn’t it?, that’s why we should be careful with words too. I’ll try to remember that too.:-)
    cause…
“words when spoken and hearts when broken are the hardest thing to repair”

and…there’s nothing worse than hate…hate consumes us and everything/everyone around us.

    lots of love and peace
    Agnieszka

  • Yes only with love, with lots of love and patience !

    [Reply]

  • My dear Agnieszka, i think that most people dont care..And they are aware of this..they are aware that they are indifferent..and that is worse than hate..indifference..means that there is no emotion..no heart…How one can be called a human, without a heart??
Sometimes, singing the song of love is not enough..we have to act..face the facts and act..and not only speak…and not only sing..we have to act to show that love can be enough..that love can create a new world..of humans..with Love we can show to Earth that She is not alone..We have to act to save Her..save the forests, the oceans, everything is upon us…maybe we are Lost in this Paradise, but we shouldnt let this paradise Lost too..and only with Love we can build what is torn apart..
    Love and Graditude

  • Annie,
Why do you use pronoun “we”?
    Who are “we” ?
I am not within that kind of “we” !
Every single person make difference, and if every one says like you do where will be hope, faith, love, ….warriors of light ….?
    Where would they be ?

    Ninni,

probably I misunderstand you, but to clear one thing, taking responsibility of my life does not put me in “jungle law” it is just RESPONSABILITY that every one should have.

Why should somebody else be responsible for me ?

If you are responsible for yourself it is first step to be responsible for other person too, and finaly for wellbeing of this world.

  • Dear Annie,
I don’t think that: “we tear it into pieces..we don’t care..”.
We…do care…we’re just lost sometimes, every one of us, and it’s okay, we.. are humans…we are good inside..in spite of our sins, our imperfections..,
and those moments of being lost…go away sooner or later…and… our eyes shine again and again..singing the love song..

    lots of love

  • I don´t only take responsibility for my own life since i don´t see the law of the djungle (where only the “strong” survives) as a global salution……i want to reach the profet that solidarity, meaning, value, caring, peace, compassion, wellbeeing, affenity, freedom gives…. i.e a human society in a human society where we begin where we stand and don´t let us be taken by paralysation or selfish interests, but where we take responsibility for ourselves and one another - without making a buisness of it. We do it because we want to feel good all around, because we have realized that thats the only way for making this a better place, to feel good …..that these values we prioritates are so much more important than……We do it because we know it is important to feel that we (also the “weaker minority”) B E L O N G somewhere….And with. Underneath. Until. We are united. In the smile. Of heaven.

  • If we were responsible for our own lives, and truly loved ourselves, we would love this world we live in, and we would do something to make this world better..we were given a place to live, a magnificent place, and we tear it into piecies, without putting them back together..but we dont care, we dont take responsibility for anything..humans forgot to be humans..

This is another lovely book of yours. I read it some years ago, but will read it again.

It is big truth that we should take responsability for our lives, for our acts, for our present and future.

Thank you for this quote it follows so nicely the one from The Alchemist !
