I remember when you told about Borges.oh,I want have courage.
Obrigada,
até mais,
bjs.
Mari Raphael.

Caríssimo Paulo,

Um forte abraço

Thank you Mr.Coelho
Dear Paul, thank you for responding. I totally agree with you: conflicts are a very real part of our lives. They will never go away, as long as we humans live here on this planet…
My question was more to do with the role of (good) literature: do we think it can possibly influence people, especially our future generations, to live in a more humane way with each other?
I looked at the countless (beautiful!) faces on Mr. Coelho’s Virtual Exhibition, all of them literature lovers, I assume. I bet not many serial killers among those faces… if you know what I mean.
Wishing you and others, who visit these pages, a great evening,
Alanis
Dear Mr. Coelho,
I have this question for you, a possible question of the week:
Do you believe that literature – reading books that is – is instrumental in preventing conflicts?
One of the young Finnish authors, Sofi Oksanen, made this statement:
“The power of literature as preventer of conflicts is in the fact, that it portrays the enemy as a human being.”
Sir, what do you think? Does reading literature influence people to become more peace loving? What about the whole nations?
I would appreciate your views on this matter. I thought this could make a good question of the week!
Thank you so much!
Alanis
PS You could also answer me in an e-mail, if you don’t think this is something worth publishing as a question of the week.
Hi, I’m am a big fan. I’d just like to say that your books are so inspiring and please continue with your work.
-Angeline
