Your Opinion on : The culture of fear

Do you understand?

So it seems that we are living in a culture of fear.

Before it was the terrorist attacks and now we see this economic crisis that engulfs the whole world.
My point is that we understand less and less what is happening. Personally, the more I read about this crisis the more I get lost.

Not only that: I’m reading about Pakistan, Afghanistan, Irak and the Middle East and it seems that people are losing control. When this happens we see the rise of a culture of fear. And this is what I want you to share: do you feel we are living a moment where fear is being used against us?

Don’t you have the feeling that besides our personal fear, there’s an atmosphere of doubt that is imposing this world of crisis to us?

I would like to hear your opinion on collective fear.

Weekly Free Association : The Stars

The stars that shine in nighttime usually represent the cosmic order since they move around the polar star - conceived as the axis of the world.

In many mythologies, stars were considered as the souls of predecessors that were admitted in the heavens.

In the Jewish tradition, each star is protected by an angel and constellations are seen as groups of celestial spirits that work together in harmony.

In Inca mythology, stars were considered as the “servants of the moon”, they thought that they followed the moon and responded to its every wish given that they could never be seen in daytime. Shooting stars have also many interpretations in ancient cultures: in some, like China, they would announce the death of important men, whilst in other they were believed to bring the soul of a child to the earth. Hence the commonly know expression: “born under a lucky star”.

Now you take the floor: what do you associate with the stars?

The Strength of the Warrior

Paulo Coelho

The warrior - inadvertently - takes a wrong step and falls into the abyss. Phantoms startle him, loneliness torments him. As always he sought the Good Combat, and didn’t think this would happen to him.

But it did. Surrounded by darkness, he communicates with his master.

"Master, I have fallen into the abyss," he says. "The waters are deep and dark."

"Remember one thing," replies the master. "That it is not the fall which drowns, but the length of time underwater."

And this causes the warrior to use all his strength to get out of the situation in which he finds himself.

Today’s Question by the reader : Rosey

How does one tell the difference between intuition and fear? How do you know if you’re intuiting something, or whether it’s coming from your human hopes or fears?

The difference between intuition and fear is that your intuition will guide you towards action, while fear only paralyses. As Jorge Luis Borges says in his writings "there is no other virtue than being brave". And one has to understand that braveness is not the absence of fear but rather the strengh to keep on going forward despite the fear.

Your intuition is your guide out of fear.
