Today’s Question by the reader : Maria Virginia

by Paulo Coelho on October 21, 2008

I would like to say that the way you are using this technology, as what is meant to be, a practical tool to reach even farther, is amazing! Many feel threatened by it, but not you, you have seen it’s potential. I hope our paths meet closer one day. I am truly honored by the opportunity to chat.

For me internet is another window towards people, life.
I’m always amazed by the imputs of readers, the creativity and freedom of this medium.
It would be a non-sense seeing a threat in a tool that enhances communication.

I agree ,not only does it “enhance communication”, the virtual world is an incredible teaching-aid for creativity. Splendid.

Dear Paul from Austria, well it is a two years old Mercedes, CLK 200, silver one with …surround, not caprio [too much sun in Cyprus, for a cabrio.] and I say the Mercedes company is going to … take it away from me! I just have made 2,550Kilomet. It sits down there ..looking at me with complain! It was a dream for me since the film …’Two for road’ and I thought since I could afford it to buy it so that I will not be obliged to ..be reborn just for a Mercedes. [You know unfulfilled desires!!] At least for the things that are within our reach!
We go out with our friends, the family is around, but it seems there is much more going on in Paulo Coelho’s Blog ..!! Mesmerized??

Thank you all and I would like to add that the Internet has made me very.. lazy and ‘close’. I sit here so many hours and I …do not feel the need to go out and meet other people. The telephone too has made us so practical, we say what we want and then we do not see any reason for more.. The fax is also a revolution. It is accepted as evidence now in the Courts!! Then we end up as ‘lonely travellers on an island’.
My dearest Paul from Austria, we may look at the Stars and think of them but since we still are in flesh here, we have the desires of the five senses. The need to say to them ‘I love you’ and have an answer..

THELMA

Katharina,

I’m over 50 now and for all these reasons Thelma and you mentioned internet with its enormous possibilities has its two faces and is to be taken seriously.

I also think that because of its concept the books will remain in time, especialy good books.

I agree that we should not see a threat in communicating via internet.

But I would like to draw your attention to the aspect that we (the older ones – beyond the age of thirty) have some kind of responsibility toward the younger ones (children, teenager, young adults).

We – as Thelma described – know also other ways of communication. We have experienced a life without internet, sms, and mobile phone. We should show our children and environment, that writing letters and reading books have also a right to exist.

Besides this, it is important to improve our capability to select, otherwise you are lost in the “world of the internet” and you loose a lot of time.

Dear Paulo and Thelma,

I feel very same as you. So many letters I’ve written, and still shall write, but this new amazing potential of communicating opened whole new world to me.

I could had never expressed myself before to persons I respect and adore but are so far away and out of reach in every way except via internet.

Certainly I would love to meet you in person and who knows it might happen, I am optimist, but until then, here we are Warriors of Light like King Arthur’s Knights of Round Table, in-touch via net!

Lots of love
Luce

Everything in the right amount is fine, only exagerating we might do harm by using modern tools.

When I was a teenager, we used to … write ..love letter and serenading too!! My parents used to write me everyday, when I went for studies and of course I used to answer back. That was our way of communicating with our beloved ones.
Now, young people exchange sms, to express their .. feelings, in …codes!! The internet has come into our lives and I feel priviledged to live in this era. I sit in my room and communicate with you here and I can ‘see’ my daughter in England! We have conquered ‘space and time’. I wish we communicate with the other dimensions too and have the ability to … see our departed loved ones. To unveil Isis and know the Truth.
LOVE,
THELMA
