Love this picture.Deep,and with several meanings.It’s sure of it’s path.And there’s gonna be an end to rest.No matter how lonely or isolated,there’s gonna be rest and peace.Nature is beautiful.It’s strong.Would love to visit this place.Not before the Road to SanTiago,though. =P.Love it.

This picture is so incredibly beautiful! Thank you dear Paulo for sharing it! :-) I love the multitude of its shades, the contrast light-darkness, the softness and sparkling of water… It reminds me of a dream I had some while ago when I was in a place like this and looked in amazement at the great walls of rocks surrounding me, and still floating towards the light. The sensations were mixed: great force and also humility, narrow space and yet freedom, struggle and yet victory, summed up: Life. I wish I could be there for real, I believe it is a real challenge and blessing to be rafting on the Alcantara River! God’s creation is so beautiful and spectacular, I wish all people could feel its life-giving energy and at the same time appreciate Mother Nature’s blessings at their real valour.
May God bless the whole world now and forever!

if i was traveling down this river I would pray to the heavens to speak to me of about the path of this river, speak to me about the beauty that surrounds the river, speak to me about the light that shines down upon me in this river, speak to me about the years that it took to form this river, speak to me about the depths of this river.

Here is a little story about Sicily’s Alcantara Gorge:

“At one time the Alcantara river flowed calmly along its course, without crags, rapids or sheer drops making the valley fertile. But people there were evil: they hurt each other and had no respect for nature. Two brothers lived in the valley and cultivated a field of wheat. One of them was blind. When the time came to divide up the harvest, the sighted farmer took the grain measure and began sharing out the wheat. One measure for himself and one for his brother. Then, overtaken by greed, he decided to keep most of the harvest for himself. An eagle, happening to fly overhead, witnessed what was happening and reported the incident to God, who hurled a thunderbolt at the cheat, killing him outright. The thunderbolt also struck the heap of grain that had unjustly been set aside, turning it into a mountain of red earth from which poured a river of lava which flowed down to the sea” forming la Gole dell’Alcantara.

Legend from Al Qantarah by L. Danzuso and E. Zinna.

The name, derived from the Arabic Al Qatarah, means simply “The Bridge,” in reference to a sturdy arched bridge which once spanned the river. Built by the Romans, it remained during the period of Arabic dominion.

All I can think when I look at this picture is:
If only our path were always so obvious…!
