What experiences will you draw upon to help you reach out to people around the world as a United Nations Messenger of Peace?
In my life I faced many terrible moments, especially when I was tortured by the para-militaries in 1974 in Brazil. It was an experience that didn’t bring me anything. Yet I look back at this encounter with violence and it only sparks in me the will to fight for a peaceful world where all can express their minds and views, without fearing for their lives.

You are really a brave man.I hate torture, never understood how can be somebody so cruel, heartless to torture other human beings.I wish you succeed in your good job.
Teaching people to look forward to new horizons in every moment ,dissolve the old which does not serve us anymore ,and the will to make a difference while we are here on this journey .People in many countries everyday fear for their lives -so yes it takes courage and determination to bring about peace ,so you are doing the best thing anyone can do ,and that is by talking about it ,writting about it and sharing it in your blog .Bless you …Tania
It did bring you something…it did :-) and it is beautiful…it brought you the will to fight.
I believe it is possible for people to stop torturing because I believe we are basically good…I believe in basic goodness and I have had the chance to experience goodness even during the worst moments of my life. For some reason I have been through 2 September 11s…one in Chile and the other one in the US. I also was in Chiapas during the Acteal massacre…I have survive one earthquake, the abandonment of my parents when a little girl, a dictatorship…and during all those times there has been somebody…somebody that hold my hand when needed and walk with me until I was able to stand. I love life and I love people.
Today I am married to a death row inmate. He is the most beautiful human being I know…and I feel blessed to be able to see beauty even in the ugliest places imaginable.
Please receive my love…and no! I am no victim…I am a warrior…an awkan (warrior in Mapuche)…I believe it is like the song by Milton Nascimento, sorry if my translation destroys it :-)) ” those that have their skin marked by pain, possess that strange habit of believing in life”
Love you! we are one!

If you can look back at that experience and from that be motivated and determined enough to try to bring peace to this world, then I say that it has brought you and possibly the world, something … albeit not understood or wanted at the time.
It takes enormous courage to turn something this traumatic and negative in every sense of the word and turn it for the benefit of all.
Thank you very much for having the will to continue to try to bring Peace.
Your attitude is inspirational.
Lo siento Paulo, me gustaria pensar que la gente es capaz de no torturar.
Fuerza y apoyo para aquellos que son esclavos, o presos de malas intenciones.
I endorse that comment. What gives us the right to torture people because they hold a different point of view to us?
Differences in opinion are what divide us, not unite us.
Now is the time we learn the lesson and put our differences aside.
I still remember the day on which I found that all the world had not the goodness him , and that day in my astonishment child, I have said with great surprise: “but everyone is not nice!!” i did not …
the life proposes you also experiments where you understand that love is powerful , the peace is so important because you have done the experience of the possibility of its loss
It is therefore important to preserve peace in the be and peace in the world so that extols the kindness of the man whose everyone has need … but by always keeping the mantle of love on your shoulders , and the lucidity in your heart and in your mind
preserve this is valuable and act for the keep
