What do you associate with the title of my new book “The Winner stands Alone”?

The title of my new book, to be released worldwide in 2009, is “The Winner stands alone” ( La Solitude du Vainqueur, El Vencedor está Solo). What is your first association for that sentence?
Thank you

  • The winner stands alone……I guess this winner must be someone who have gone through a very tragic life . yet God decided to give her something in life then suddenly everything changes and she starts winning …but inside her she is still the loner…she does not get any happiness out of it for her self …yet she decides to use her wealth to make a difference to many lives…but she does it anonymously….by doing that she forgives though she never can forget her sufferings….that is how The Winner Stands Alone!

This is what my guess is about the book …! I am sure this will be another great lesson in life as all the other books . Your books are great! looking forward to read it !!

  • A boy (10 - 12 years) in the light with the other in the darkness

When I read this sentence, I think to a boy wich is alone in the light.
I think, when you goes out the mass you have to be “perfect” and perfection makes people alone…

  • The winner stands alone, makes me think in what i have to resign in my life to reach big goals, and no living to reach the dreams that i share with others.
Shared dreams maybe makes me loose time and concentration to focus/reach on my own dreams, so i decide live for me and not for others.

  • In french : to feel alone and to be alone is the same! but in english ,it doesn’t mean the same , I feel alone when I’m sad even I’m with lot of people! But I’m alone with the Nature ,when I speak to a flower to say :” You’re the most beautiful flower ,I saw but chut! it’s only beetween you and me !” or in front of sea or ocean, when it’s rainning ,when it’s shining ,all the weather I like !because it’s the nature and so I’m very happy when I’m alone with the earth ,even I know there is so many people unhapiness and miserable ,but I think it’s possible to change it and to change my own life ,what I’m doing now ,because I understood the life ,I understood my mother would say to me and I know ,now she is happy for her daughter and I would give it the same for my daughters but they don’t undersand yet ,may be later ,and I hope before I ‘ll dead , today I want to be a free woman ,a new woman , I love the others even they made me bad , they don’t understand me and I’m not an “lighting girl” as they think ! Every body : a good day and free hugs!

  • Funny, the same day you posed this question, I had changed my status on a certain site to “the cheese stands alone”, a line from a game from my childhood.

Your title makes me think of the Grail romance. The individual path/adventure. Which is not to say that one is alone, but that one, as Campbell put it, can hear “the divine power operative in one’s own heart”. :)

  • For me this is a double-edged sword; if used wisely can bring great triumph as he who trusts in himself and his journey may stand alone in his faith and live a great life without being affected by the negative energies, opinions or criticisms of others.

Used unwisely, the winner who brings about success based solely on personal motivation will come to stand alone in loneliness despite all his personal treasures.

  • He who stands alone is the winner of the booby prize, which is to say in need of nurturing, for to stand alone is to lose. It is like asking, why did God come into being? To improve Itself. Why a universe? To increase the chances of succeeding.

  • The Winner stands alone. . .individuated and no longer dependent on that outside of self to governor or be seduced . . . The paradox of awakening, The Winner Stands Alone is found with layered word play here. . .

The Winner = one that receives or is the bountiful. . .

Stands = to stand from one’s own individuated space in the world. .

    Alone = al one = all one. . .

When we truly stand al’one’ there is only One and there are no “edges to our loving” or our being. . .

  • …metaphrically seen is a winner who stands alone not a winner at all.so i guess actually if somebody who is seen as a winner by others, doesn´t see himself like this.
because if you win something you´ll lose something else( freedom, friends…etc). this is my association

  • Off hand I think of Christ on the cross on Golgotha…abandoned, alone, mocked, only to rise triumphantly. Each of us make that journey ourselves, in our personal battle in various times of our life which enable us to overcome.

  • What I associate with the title “The Winner Stands Alone”, is the struggle of every person to fight the battles inside him, he needs to fight it on his own, and the only thing he needs to rely on is himself. I do not think of loneliness in this struggle, although some may look at it that way. When we give up “fighting” for what we believe in, we almost always seek out friends or family to comfort us. But when we stay steadfast in our goals, we find the confidence to stand on our own feet, needing no “crutches” to lean on.

  • quite a negative one of loneliness, jealousy, betrayal of people you thought were friends and that sort of things. Winners are beloved and hated because they do what people dream of in the same time as the very people who admire them don’t dare to take the necessary steps themselves.
    But,
it could also have a total other meaning depending on what sort of “winner” you are describing.

Is a “winner” someone who wins on lottery, or someone who after years of hard training win an olympic gold medal or someone who takes the decision to enter a monastery to live closer to God? Is a winner the one who survived the concentrationcamp in 2nd WW? Or the child who was born healthy in the rich part of the world?

It will be interesting to see what you have made of it.

  • Dear Paulo,

Love your books and thank you for writing them.

About the title “The Winner stands Alone” and what I associate it with is….

On the way to reaching your destiny if you break your loved ones trust and hearts. A lot of people would be around you to celebrate when you eventually reach your goal and win but you will not have the people who really matter in your life. So you end up being alone though you have won. So, “The Winner stands Alone”.

Another way of looking at it is eventually when you reach your destiny only you truly know and understand the achievement you have made though you have a million other people celebrating with you. The only person for whom it would mean anything and everything is only oneself. So, “The Winner stands Alone”.

    Love
    Ivy

  • One is the loneliest number
    That you’ll ever do
Two can be as bad as one
It’s the loneliest number since the number one

    No is the saddest experience
    You’ll ever know
    Yes, it’s the saddest experience
    You’ll ever know
Because one is the loneliest number
    That’ll you’ll ever do
    One is the loneliest number
    That you’ll ever know

    It’s just no good anymore
    Since you went away
    Now I spend my time
    Just making rhymes
    Of Yesterday

Because one is the loneliest number
    That you’ll ever do
    One is the loneliest number
    That you’ll ever know

    One is the loneliest number
    One is the loneliest number
    One is the loneliest number
    That you’ll ever do
    One is the loneliest number
    Much much worse than two
One is a number divided by two

  • I mean I let my friends know about the success. and what was their part in it.

  • Now I saw the sentence in other languages. It’s about loneliness of the winner.

Well, when you win sometihing, after feeling proud of it, happy and joyfull, there comes an inner emptiness feeling, that may make you feel alone. People become envious with your results, even the close ones and they know that if they are not so extraordinary as you are, as a winner, they loose courage in aproaching you, feel mediocre, feel stupid, and they prefer, during time, to not visit you anymore. Inferiority complex.

But, enemies may become friends as you got the key of succes and they want it too. And they want to learn from you everything till they become winners. And then..leave you. Empty again.

When someone is famous, he/she may get false friendships and loose the sincere ones.

I am thinking now to the team of specialists I coordinate at work. When I have a succes, I try to explain to the colleagues from other departments that my succes is actually my team’s succes, and split the “success” to all that contribute to it, even with just a little. This is the correct way.

In life, when I have a succes, I let my friends or people that ones in their life gave me an advice or told me a simple word or just did something to me that later on it had helped me to be successful. I don’t keep ALL success just for myself. Therefore it is easyer for a winner to keep going, to keep his friends even closer, to be respected and visited at home. It’s impossible in this world and life to say:

The success only MINE! ‘Cause is not entirely. Let’s be onest.

    Love, Adina

  • Maybe the winner climbed up the wrong mountain (wrong inner reasons, his past, influence from others…). And now the winner stands alone, because he recognized it was not really him who climbed up. The winner feels himself alone.

  • The winner stands alone.
Doing what you want or doing something to get what you want but ending up alone. Even if alone isn’t what you wanted to be.

    That’s what comes to mind.
