Quote of the Day

Do not try to explain feelings. Live everything intensely and treasure what you feel as a gift from God. (Brida)

Today’s Question by Mario

What experiences will you draw upon to help you reach out to people around the world as a United Nations Messenger of Peace?

In my life I faced many terrible moments, especially when I was tortured by the para-militaries in 1974 in Brazil. It was an experience that didn’t bring me anything. Yet I look back at this encounter with violence and it only sparks in me the will to fight for a peaceful world where all can express their minds and views, without fearing for their lives.

Free Content in Internet

What is your opinion on free contents in Internet?

As you can see in my blog, I share as much as I can. The entertainment business thinks that it’s hurting their revenues, which I don’t think it is.

I think that the content is free, beauty is free and you have to share, despite of your human condition.

This is a very important moment to discuss that because they are threatening to pass laws for forbidding people to share their contents. I like to hear your opinion on this.

Thank you!

Association of the Week : The Milky Way

Inspiration for poets and painters, the Milky Way, this “celestial path” appears in practically all mythologies.

In the Indian sacred text of the Rig Veda, this is the path that the Gods take in order to come to Earth and see the sacrifices. This luminous way is also the path taken by the souls in order to reach the after-world.

The presence of milk between the night clouds comes from the Greek Myth : Heracles (Hercules) was being breastfed by the goddess Hera. Given the youth insatiable appetite, the Goddess decides – in a moment of fury – to tear her breast away. The drops of divine milk form then the stars.

In the Mayan mythology, the milky way is seen as the “great white serpent” that each day is devoured by the Eagle of the Sun. In Christianity, this immense ring of luminous matter against the backdrop of night, became the privileged image of Saint James Path, guiding pilgrims until the holy city of Compostella.

Now you take the floor : what do you associate with the Milky Way?

Today’s Question by Stéphane

How do you see your role as a United Nations Messenger of Peace?

I would say that the type of work that I want to develop with the UN would be the one where I would use culture, the last bridge that in my view remains intact in this divided world, to reassemble people. The power of storytelling is exactly this: to bridge the gaps where everything else has crumbled. Because if we still can understand the stories and legend of our neighbor, even if we don’t understand anything else, we will realize that we are not strangers, and we share a lot of values in common.

A wonderful gift

From Marcia, on behalf of all of you. THANK YOU!!

Choosing in peace

By Paulo Coelho

The warrior of the light meditates. He sits down in a quite corner of his tent and delivers himself to the divine light.

On doing so, he tries not to think of anything, detaches himself from the pursuit of pleasures, challenges and revelations, and lets his gifts and powers reveal themselves.

Even though he does not notice it at the time, these gifts and powers are taking control of his life and will affect his daily life.

As he meditates, the warrior is not himself but rather a spark of the Soul of the World. These are the moments that allow him to understand his responsibility and act accordingly. A warrior of the light knows: in the silence of his heart exists a higher order that is to show him the steps of his personal choice.

Today’s Question by Antonio

Is the story in the book The Valkyries a true one?

The book’s central idea is true (meeting the angel), the journey to Mojave too, but much of what is written is fictionalized. Nevertheless, the most important episode – the meeting of the angel – really did happen, and I left a statue of the Lady of Aparecida in Glorieta Canyon, near Borrego Springs, CA.

Reflections of Warrior of Light

By Paulo Coelho

Carlos Castañeda says: “The great power of the human being is his capacity to make decisions.” Each decision that we take enables us to change the future and the past.

Choosing means: “I commit myself.” When someone makes a choice, they must remember that the path to be followed is going to be very different from the path imagined. Choosing means: “well, I know where I want to get to.”

Choosing also means: “I’ll have to give up a lot of things.” And it is with this commitment that the warrior of the light moves forward.
