The lion and the cats

Paulo Coelho

A lion came across a group of cats having a chat. “I’m going to devour them,” he thought.

But then an odd feeling of calm came over him. And he decided to sit down with them and pay attention to what they were saying.

- Good God! – said one of the cats, without noticing the lion’s presence. – We have prayed all afternoon! We asked for the skies to rain mice on us!

- And so far nothing has happened! – said another. – I wonder if the Lord really exists.

The skies remained mute. And the cats lost their faith.

The lion rose and went on his way, thinking: “funny how things are. I was going to kill those animals, but God stopped me. And even so, they stopped believing in divine grace. They were so worried about what was missing that they did not even notice the protection they were given.”

  • Its very simple, yet its very deep.
It shows how humans complain about what they don’t have, without thanking God for they have.
It also shows that we dont have to fully comprehend the greater plan that God has for us and our ives, but we should always be sure that it’s for the better.
No matter how bad things look, you would never know if it could’ve been worse.

  • I become more and more a lion.

  • Was just telling a friend yesterday that when u pray…God does not necessarily answer the way we expect but usually in our best interest…So the outcome can be a surprise !

  • This story is such a simple illustration of how, as a race, human beings can become so absorbed in their own personal wants they don’t allow themselves to be open to the Greater spirit and what would available to them would be so much more gratifying if only they opened themselves up to possibility and the energy that surrounds us all. I can identify this because it’s something I’ve experienced personally and I know what a hollow and unfulfilling place it is to be without being open to our Greater purpose. Thank you Paulo, this is a story that can be easily remembered yet says so much.

  • This story is cool ! I like it !!!

  • I thought that was funny.
    Love

  • This story reminds me that our prayers are always answered in one form or another. To ask for something and receive it is one answer…to ask for something and to not receive it is also an answer.

  • DESDE LUEGO QUE EL MUNDO INVISIBLE ES TAN SUTIL QUE NO SE PERCIBE LA PROTECCIÓN DEL UNIVERSO.
    ¿CÓMO PODEMOS HACER PARA PERCIBIRLO?
GRACIAS POR ESTAS ENSEÑANZAS, ME GUSTAN LOS CUENTOS.

  • we should learn to look around us,,,, to listen to our universe! it has so much to tell us, we can find ssso many things that we dont imagine that they r here every were just awareness,,,, and also if we believe!!!!! and never loose hope and faith,,,, it helps us solving many situations in life,,,, even the bad once,,, by accepting situation together with faith we can deal better with conditions!!!! and in the zahir i think we see how openning our eyes,,, and our selves,,we learn a lot.

  • God work in mysterios ways, and we have to keep our heart open to see it :-)

  • The lion and the cats was a nice story. While I read it everything was in cartoon format. There was a big cartoon lion, and 3 funny looking cartoon cats talking fast. An animated quality to this story.

  • Dear Sefer Jan you are a very wise and thoughtful … neighbour. Your coments above are ‘right on the point’.Thank you and Luce too. We must never complain and lose our faith thinking that our prayers have not been answered, because in our ‘ignorance’ and human perception we are not in the position to know God’s Will.

  • Dear Paulo,

This story has lifted cloud of depression that is covering me last few days. It make me smile, and I love it.

    Dear Alexandra,
You are right, before asking a favor we should first think as it may be granted, and it could be cros instead of crown…

    and

Sefer JAN, I agree, we do not know how many times and in what way God already helped us, and Paulo’s story is like wake-up call.

    Love to you all
    Luce

  • Dear ALEXANDRA;

You say “the story reminds us that we alway must be afraid to ask”. But I do not agree with you in this point. We should not be afraid to ask, I think that story reminds us that we must not complain. We, all human beings are like children, to ask/desire/want is our nature, but we have to control ourselves when we do not get the thing/s we wanted. We have to thank God for whatever He gave (and gives) us, whenever we know the reason or not.

    Loves.

  • The plan of God is so complex that we can’t understand the flow of our destiny by looking only from “our side”.

Whatever there is, it has to be there.

    Be happy ;-)

  • What a great lesson. We need to take time to look around and recognize what we do have, not what we don’t. But for many it takes work; it doesn’t come naturally.

  • this is like “fablieux’,i have never seen a good lion.but one of my favourites saints is Saint Francis from Assissi.(San Francesco dAssissi),the one who tamed a wolf.Generally i love animals,so one might guess why I am fond os that paricular saint.
The story reminds us that we alway must be afraid to ask ,because maybe the thing will be granted, and might be not in our favour.God always knows better whats best for us.Faith means that we trust even when we dont understand something

  • it’s so much about my life…

  • Je donne ma langue au chat.

  • open your eyes , open your heart …..

    Faith / hope / love
