Did he in fact made a mistake or was it a wrong trasnlation to the english version of the book? if you recall the original text is in portuguese!

Veins are the blood vessels that deliver de-oxygenated blood from organs to heart, not to organs (including brain). I assume author made a slight mistake in here.
