There is a good book out by Geoffrey Robertson QC.
It is called” The Statute of Liberty”
How to give Australian back their rights.
“If we are to preserve the part of our heritage to do with freedom, we must write down the entitlement of every citizen in a way that politicians and Public servants will respect – that means they must be turned into law. If they are not capable of legal enforcement then they are not “rights” -just empty promises-.The Australian Attorney General is expected to announce a commission to examine the case for an Australian Bill of Rights in December 2008, on the 60th Annniversary Declaration of Human Rights. A big decision for the Rudd Govt. G. Robertson QC puts the case for an Australian Bill of Rights cogently and dramatically proving from evidence from other countries how a statute of liberty helps ordinary citizens to improves standards of governance and public servants.
That real democracy only exists if politicians give the courts power to defend citizens against abuses of their human rights by governments and Public Servants.”

YEE! AH ! Something that makes sense at last. What do you think Paulo?

Another book I was browsing the other day was the one written by Dr Mohamed Khadra “The patient” One man’s journey through the Australian Health-Care System -

Both of these books are available from :

Santosh K -
Looks like you touch the right K.
What Rules are you referring to? Aren’t rules made to be broken?
What a good exercise that is.
The” Dead poet society’s type.” and their predators.
Fancy that.I have not read the fine details of the contest. It is held in the US – possibly only US citizens are eligible – It is the Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry if you are interested – if you live in the US ,first prize is $25,000. I did not know you could get money for your poems, so there you are, a student in progress.
Can I interest you into a singing group? First song :”Twinkle twinkle little star”.Rehearsals starting in the next few days.
Please keep in touch.
I still have that twinkle in my eye Santosh K.

Thanks and God bless you too.

Oi!

Hoje me declaro soldada da Paz!

Liina.L, I agree with Borgny. Could questioning police officers at that moment been a good thing? It is difficult to say.

Marie-Christine,

-I know how you felt when they put the “Rules” in front of you and ask you to show them your art.

-Let your emotions flow as if the white paper will feel shame.

-There should be no boundaries and barriers for the creation of art. Let me say, if there happen to be some rule where they will say, “you cannot write after 50″

what would Paulo do in such case? Since he once said, he started writing books only after he got 40 or something..,

-Open your eyes and see the stars twinkling with its own life, there is no boundary for them to twinkle, there is no religion which ask them stop, there is no differences among themselves.., they live with utmost joy and happiness.., let your creation be like those shining stars up above the sky.., charismatic and pleasant when they shine..,

God bless you !

and

God bless you all !

Is it me, or the world seems to be like a big jungle?
Everyone is hunting for a the next meal, forgetting that we are all human.. After all the technologies, the scientific studies, and the education… we are nothing but animals fighting for survival.

I was walking on the street and I saw a man getting arrested by the 2 police men. I have never seen anything like that in my life. Except the mass hooligans last year in Estonia, russian teenagers roaming, robbing and destroying the shops and buildings of Tallinn’s centre of the city, and old town.
This reminded me similar feelings, and it was awful.

I walked by, hearing the man scream in russian: “I don’t know anything, I don’t know anything. Dear people, help me! Help me! I don’t have drugs, I don’t know anything about it!” Etc. etc…

Although the irony of this situation was that the man had a car, with an Estonian flag on it. And yet he screamed in russian. The national language of estonia is estonian.

I got a very disturbing feeling inside me: I started thinking about how maybe it could of been an innocent man. But I haven’t heard of many corruption cases and violations of honest people – but I bet that these things do not get in press, otherwise the trust in Police would get lower and lower.

Then another police car came, and they put them in that little jail in the police car and drove off. This all happened in front of a building where couples in love can declare their marriage.

At one point I’m thinking – maybe I should of interferred.
But I was coward and I just walked by…
Trust in police is very high in Estonia.

Although – You never know what really happens.

Confused,
L.L.

I wanted to avoid that, but I am worried about a person, famous in my country. He is from humble origins, sheperd.Lately he managed to be a tycoon, but ,he always helped the poor, and donate money to monasteries and church. Was not perfect, but nobody is. As a curiosity,he is fond of “The Alchemist”, and he love to be called a Warrior of the Light.Happened that thieves have stolen his expensive car, and asked a ransom. His bodyguards caught the thieves and guess they beat them little. Thieves never complain to police. But, police found it out,and soon arrested that tycoon.I think is an injustice,is not the most dangerous person .And ,thinking how faithful he is,now Eastern approaching, was that a moment to put him in jail?People that he helped with money, after floods ,to built new houses, tried to gather and to ask his freedom. The leader of those people get arrested.I think is all an set up,and I really hope he will get out before Eastern.God help him

This morning in Italy has been declared the state of alarm. An earthquake has hit the Abruzzi to the 3,30 of the night. Several sismic swarms already hit the zone from half past December but this night it has been most violent: the jolt has had as epicenter the Aquila and has been of magnitudo 5,8, an entire minute and interminable of fear… for who it has made it. In the chief town some buildings are collapsed totally, have been opened of the large ones chasms on the land, many persons still are caught between the ruins, many are died and many were children, the number of the victims continuous to go up. To how much it seems is as if two opposite forces under the terrestrial crust pull each one from own part; one is that tirrenic, the other is the adriatic, like in order tearing in two same Italy in the Appennine zone centers them. Damages have been marked in various places of the province. 50,000 persons do not have more a roof and all Italy is being mobilized: convoys of aid from all the regions, the Civil Protection are all drawed up, open checking accounts in order to collect deep, unite you to the prayer…

MARG,

Ca

I was looking at a blog on the Internet and log onto another one about entering a poetry’s contest.
As I was reading, the Entrant’s checklist for 2009, I saw something rather bizarre I thought – It said “Entrants must be under the age of 40 on Nov 6, 2009.”
I did not realise you had to be under a certain age to write poetry.
At 62, I don’t qualify.Oh well, you live and learn.

Just want to share an e-mail I received to day.
The human body
It takes your food seven seconds to get from your mouth to your stomach.
One human hair can support 3kg (6.6b)
Human thighbones are stronger than concrete.
A woman’s heart beats faster than a man’s.
There are about one trillion bacteria on each of your feet.
Women blinks twice as often as men.
The average’s person’s skin weights twice as much as the brain.
Your body uses 300 muscles to balance itself when you are standing still.
If saliva cannot dissolve something, you cannot taste it.
Women reading this will be finished now.

Eu vi um menino correndo
Eu vi o tempo
Brincando ao redor do caminho daquele menino
Eu pus os meus pés no riacho
E acho que nunca os tirei
O sol ainda brilha na estrada
E eu nunca passei
Eu vi a mulher preparando
Outra pessoa
O tempo parou pra eu olhar para aquela barriga
A vida é amiga da arte
É a parte que o sol me ensinou

I just posted an original short story based on a short film I wrote with a long-time friend. It’s about the consequences of acting from fear. The full story can be found by following the link below. Hope you enjoy it:

“Athena stood before a full-length mirror in her drab one bedroom apartment, an attractive woman in her late twenties, staring at her image critically, scanning it for flaws. She was dressed in casual evening wear: short skirt and pantyhose with a low-cut blouse showing just a hint of cleavage. She took in a deep breath. This would have to do.

She exited her apartment building to find the night moonless and dark. Taking a quick glance to the left and right, she approached the bus stop at the corner. She looked up at the bus schedule and then down at her watch. The summer breeze blew warmly on her skin. Impulsively, she decided to walk.

As she set off, a taxi pulled up behind her and stopped. The door opened to deposit Colin, a twenty-something year-old wearing a tee-shirt emblazoned with a Superman “S” under a green army jacket, on the sidewalk. As he turned to close the taxi door, he tripped, sending a pile of envelopes in his open backpack flying. They scattered over the sidewalk. Cursing, he scrambled to gather them up.

Abruptly, another figure, Barry, came jogging past in a suede sports jacket, accidentally stepping on one of Colin’s envelopes, freezing it in place, enabling Colin to grab it before the breeze whisked it away…”
