Marie-Christine:
Now that I reread your post, I realize that we may be talking about two different subjects entirely. I am talking about the vote with facebook and the immediate debate that has arisen surrounding these issues of users rights. I realize that your post is about another vote entirely. Sorry.

The next 6 days I will be seperated from my husband and kids.
This has never happened before.
They are off to my family in law. And tomorrow I will be meditating with Thich Nath Hanh together with more than 600 other persons.
Today I am alone in my house waiting for it all to begin.
I allways wanted to have more space for myself. And now that I have it, I miss my family so much.
Dont worry I have lots of thing to do and tomorrow I will be with all those people who come for the same.
I wonder if I will change in any way.
I will let you know.

Love,

Mirjam

A story that is relevant for every couple today and all other days:

Last night I came into the kitchen and found my Hibiscus standing in a pot, soil dry, leaves and a big bud hanging down. I watered the plant well, and went to bed. This morning I was standing in the kitchen with my husband when I noticed that the plant stood very healthy, leaves up and a big pink bud about to burst. I told my husband what had happened, and I said: Maybe you could gain some knowledege from that? (I could have asked myself the same question.)

If I had waited one more day to water the plant, there would have been nothing to save. The whole plant – roots, stems, leaves, buds and flowers: All parts would have lost the ability to take up water.
And this is a lesson for every marriage in the world. Remeber to water the plant in time…

Caruso by Florent Pagny – the song is in Italian -
Oh Brother! that is something! Listen to that voice -crystal clear -
No problem with his breathing that’s for sure.

“Being in the lower social class, I am considered poor, and I do live in one of the most disreputable district AND in a social housing with a community that couldn’t care less about their children.

When people ask me what I am doing for a living I see them frown unsatisfide. So they ask what I plan on doing later in life… then when they hear, they take the wax out of their ears before my very eyes. Like if it wasn’t enough valuable or unpleasantly surreal. As if my own person was based on how much money I make.

Hi everybody
Be aware and be vigilant!
Some overseas Internet servers might be quite pleased when this is passed.
It will be one way traffic!

This reminds me of some of the Copyright laws that abounds in the USA for example
- where everytime you sneeze you can be sued -
I saw a writer on the Oprah Show once – he looked so sugary and sweet – and although I did not understand most of what he was saying, it caught my interest – so , off I went surfing on the net – in search of my dreams – and when I went onto the site I was astounded to see that if I wrote something in it I was bound by “multiple choices” of being sued. Even what I am writing and saying in my own words is their property. This does not make any sense to me at all.
Something else too – over the years, I have collected a number of quotes from different people – and I have found on many occasions, although unaware before – that I have been saying the same thing myself – does this mean that I can’t say it or write it?-

As from to-day , when I go to the supermarket and say ” I am going to buy a tin of lentils and three carrots ” Please do not repeat it because this is copyright.
Have a nice day and keep on smiling.
Love and beijos to all.

A big thank you to Thelma, B*sofie & Jessica for your comments on the interviews, I’m going to consult the Tarot now after I print off my CV for tomorrow. Actually something came to me there; I started to pray again for the first time in years around a week ago. Thanks for the reiki and sound advice. (I’m still wondering about the job which has not presented itself yet :( )

In reply to Marie-Christine, I don’t think that it’s going to be a personal vote… I think that it will be a demographic vote in Europe by politicians. So if it goes that way say good by to your internet-free rights… V

The conference on romance scholarship Love as the Practice of Freedom? at Princeton University had barely ended when Romancelandia was rocked by a war between factions on what behaviors and opinions are appropriate for academics as opposed to the producers and consumers of romance fiction.

Here’s the background… The closing panel of the conference Romance Reads the Academy featured the RWA president, an editor, and two bloggers. The idea behind the panel was for these folks, who’ve been identified as knowledgeable in guaging the pulse of the romance fiction soceity, to comment on the work done so far by the researchers and to identify some of the paths scholarly exploration should take next. As such, it was for the natives to inform the social scientists about their society, not the individual spokespeople, but the society as a whole.

The publication of the panel speech by Michelle Buonfiglio of Romance B(u)y the Book set the fur flying. Here’s the rebuttal by Sarah Wendell of Smart Bitches Trashy Books. Also read an account of the conference by reader Karen W on Dear Author, an essay by Janet/Robin of Dear Author, and comments by author Barb Ferrer and by Sandy of All About Romance.

The blog reader commentary follows along drawn party-lines with each group supporting their candidate, but in fact, it illustrates my thoughts precisely…
1. The romance reading public is a supportive community of courteous, intelligent people who enjoy voicing their opinions with confidence and respectfully analyzing dissenting hypotheses. (High-falutin’-sounding, much? Ahem.)
2. The freedom to say what we think is every person’s fundamental right, as is the right to freely exercise that right.
3. Academic investigation has to be unfettered for it to have any value.
4. The Internet is an even playing field, not a zero-sum game. Every viewpoint only generates more weight to the topic/field at hand.
5. Ethics and morality issues of conscience handled in a top-down approach rarely succeed in a society of infinitely varying notions of right and wrong.

Thank you for your post, Marie-Christine. I went to the website, but had a little difficulty finding anything about the vote. Is there a more direct link? At any rate, thanks for bringing this to the attention of all. As you have noted, there are some major changes going on that we all need to be aware of.

My understanding of the vote, however, is that it is rather a “display of democracy” than any genuine gesture to let the users decide. Such a short spans of time has been given for the voting to take place, and since it takes time to get the word out about the vote, as well as to educate users on what their vote implies, there will be only a very small portion of users who will have a chance to participate, and there is a clause which requires that this quota be met. Otherwise, the vote is null and void, and its outcome will only be taken as an “advisory.” In other words, it can be utterly and completely ignored. This does not mean that one should not vote, but maybe voting is not enough. Counter legislation is required. Some collective movement to turn the tables back in our favor.

What is all about? I know nothing. How can they stop internet?
I know only in my country is already a law that made legal that we can be spied . I take it humorously, but is an obvious abuse. I just noticed that the most delicate or important laws are approved in deep silence and all in a hurry…
