I met a fiddler (Hassidic tradition)

Paulo Coelho

A disciple approached Rabbi Moshé Haim: “Today I met a man who laughed and scorned my striving for spiritual grace.”

“Today I met a fiddler,” answered the Rabbi. “He played with such divine inspiration that all who drew near began to sing and dance. I followed suit and was praising Creation with my joy when I saw a deaf man approach us. He stood there watching the fiddler and everyone dancing away. Finally he said in a loud voice: “What an indecent and grotesque display by a bunch of madmen!”

And Moshé Haim concluded: “Those who don’t know how to listen to God’s music can only conclude that it is useless.”

Dearest Annie, your words are beautiful like .. yourself and music!

Not many understand the need of the Soul for music, the Angels talk. In the silence we perceive the inner music.

Tonight I am going to a concert to Beethoven’s 9Th Symphony.
We cannot ‘see’ or ‘hear’ God with our material eyes and ears.. Too much Light!
Beethoven was perceiving the Divine music when he was completely deaf. He used his ..inner ears. The Ode to Joy:”Seek HIM in the heavens! Above the stars must He dwell” Freidrich von Schiller.
    LOVE,
    Thelma.

( I have aterribel habit to sending these posts without checking it at least once, some spelling mistakes can change the meaning too much )

as has been said often, it’s a matter of focus, what are you focused on, where is your focus, are you focused on music or noise, on dance or grotesque gestures, on other people on the path or others who have not yet begun their journey consciously.

Krishna says,…., …. say that it is all an illusion, just to teach us the knack of right focus. but if all is illusion am i too an illusion ? Most as they know themselves are illusion, but there is one small, still voice, that me ! that is not illusion, after using neti-neti till even end is neti, what remains is my consiousness, pure consiousness, that is not an illusion, that is all that is.

it is all a matter of focus, hevean and hell are not two diffrent places but two diffrent perspectives of the same thing. so frinds, it is all a matter of focus ! ain’t it ??

PS : and as we saw somwhere else, that on which we are focused grows in our life, be focused on music and music, melody will grow, be focused on noise and noise will grow.
for those who may wonder neti neti is a upanishad concept which recomments go on negating whatever you can perceive or conceive, to reach !

This story touched me. It sort of validates my thinking about life and what I want to do. But people have laughed and scorned at me. Many times I feel I am the one who must change and adapt.

I agree with Julia Roberts when she says that the works of Paulo Coelho are how music for our soul …

Je suis d’accord avec Julia Roberts quand elle dit qui les ouvres de Paulo Coelho sont comment des musiques pour notre âme…

  15. Heart says:

As when school children ‘misbehaving’ are diagnosed with ‘social and emotional problems’, when the real problem is; the school lack a good curriculum and/or teachers who are able to engage the groups.
For the behavior problem children, their behavior make complete sense for the situation they are in.

Or as when a tiny toddler tries to manipulate various objects, i.e. moving a chair from one side of the room, and adults well meaning take the chair and move it for them, and the toddler starts to cry, because it made complete sense to try out physical powers, and he/she was interrupted an important activity to learn about themselves and the surroundings.

How hard it is for all of us to take the perspective of others, to understand a child’s perspective, a perspective of a person with a mental problem, a perspective of the group dancing to the music. Words can help us explain to each other why we are doing what we are doing…Somebody has to be the voice of those unable to express the meaning of sensible behavior.

May we find the ‘use’ of each note of music that we come across. Ameen!

    Querido Mestre,
    MARG,

    Ca

  19. sido66 says:

The time of God is not the time of the people…

Yesterday, I did not hear the music of God because I had a veil on ears.

Today the veil tore in front of my eyes; and the veil in front of my ears flew away.

Thank you, Lord, to have allowed me to see and to hear Your music, which rocks my soul.

Then, when I cross the deaf person who does not hear the music, I do not judge, but I love him, and I mine him the music of my soul, so that he hears with the eyes the music of the LOVE.

  20. Alexandra says:

Everything that brings joy to our heart is useful, we are made by spirit and flesh, so we must nourish our spirit not only our flesh, and the food for spirit might be music, art, literature all beautiful things.
