Liisa – I’m learning to value the various struggles, hoping one day to take flight with the strength and confidence necessary to pursue my own personal legend.

The butterfly begins crawling on the ground (as a caterpillar), then spins a cocoon (life’s journey) for its own metamorphosis, and then at the right time begins to break free in order to fly. If you ever noticed, Butterflies won’t rest long on just one flower or in one place. They rest and then take flight quickly! I’ve always wondered if that is because they crawled on the ground for so long, they don’t want to take their wings for granted.

Don’t take your wings for granted… I’m still learning how to fly.

From the scientific view this case is clear – it is a matter of mimesis (camouflage through a similar background). Biston betularia e.g.(I don’t know the English name of that butterfly) is patterned in black and white and lives on birch trees. This must be a new species – Biston alchemistica!;-)

Thank you so much for your post, and Paulo for posting that picture, which inspired T.K.’s post. (and whoever took the picture, which inspired Paulo to post it here, etc….)

I needed to read about the butterflies’ struggle at this moment. I’ve always been drawn to butterflies, too, I’ve felt that they are, well, very beautiful for a start, but also somehow mystical, they are a sign, and now I know what they symbolize. So thank you very much! Back to building my wings….

I love butterflies. My alter (artist) ego is a butterfly :-)
The butterfly is a champion insect. When emerging from its cocoon, its struggle is one of independence. If someone were to assist the butterfly in its attempt to break free, the butterfly’s wings would not be able to fully function. The butterfly gains strength in the struggle so when it becomes free its wings will be able to support its flight.

Thanks for posting this picture! This photo represents much in this season of my life. While going through a phase of transformation understanding that I am gaining strength through my own struggles, I continue to persevere knowing my current circumstances are preparing me for what’s ahead. The butterfly resting on Paulo’s book speaks volumes for me. While in this season of my life, it is through Paulo’s writings that I have found comfort in the midst of so many trials. I have been able to learn more about myself through the writings of so many of his books.

Again, thanks for posting this picture. It is a sign. It is a symbol of extreme comfort that alerts me my labor is not in vain, the struggle has value and worth, and I am on the right path.
