My Blog

Author: Paulo Coelho

Three years of this blog this week.

It started with the Trans-Siberian back in 2006 and we are always trying to improve – and not simply invent something out of nothing – and craving for a better interaction between the readers.

I check every day and moderate most of the comments, I don’t answer because I want you to talk among yourselves but it is time to do something different. So, what is your suggestion for this blog after these three years together?

I am really open to your proposals and I also need your suggestions.

If you use twitter, I invite you to tweet about it using #paulocoelho.

Bestselling Brazilian scribe Paulo Coelho is brewing pics with a witch and an alchemist on the Croisette.

Coelho came to Cannes to promote Web-generated pic “The Experimental Witch” and to talk with Harvey Weinstein about the long-gestating adaptation of his tome “The Alchemist,” which is now expected to start shooting by year’s end.

Weekly Association: The Circle

Author: Paulo Coelho

The circle is the most used geometrical symbol and its shape reminds the shape of the Sun and the Moon.

For ancient philosophers, such as Plato, the circle represents the perfect shape. It is said that the Temple of Apollo in the land of Hyperborean had a circular shape – which reminds the shape of Stonehenge in South England as well as Plato’s description of the island of Atlantis.

Mystical systems represent God as a circle that has a center everywhere and the circumference is nowhere – proof that God’s perfection is unattainable to man.

The Egyptian symbol of eternity was a string closed by a buckle, in other cultures infinity would be depicted as a serpent biting its own tail (Ouroboros).

Now you take the floor: what do you associate with the circle?

A battle in winter is different from a battle in summer; a good warrior is careful to select the right moment to begin a fight.

Is Fashion, the reign of appearances for you?

I don’t have anything against fashion. It can be the expression of freedom and a way of liberation. It’s the case for instance of Coco Chanel who single handedly revolutionized conventions.

Of course, there are some tendencies that don’t really convince and can be quite alienating.

It’s always a question of perspective.
