Dear Paulo,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and the world perception with the others. I read “The Winner Stands Alone” only a few days ago. After finishing it I had some questions which were unanswered. Searching on the net I couldn’t find any answers or clues. So, I beg your pardon but there is no one but you to help me.
I found two characters in the book which were very similar to each other: Gabriela and Morin. Both staked everything to achieve their life goals. One was killed, the other was left alive with nothing. Why didn’t Gabriela become one more destroyed world? Though her life goal was false…
And Jasmine… Having let the murders be free she wasn’t punished by the world? Why does it happen? Some people deserve to be justified, some are not.
Thanks!
I’m looking forward to hearing from you!
Natasha
DEAR PAULO COEHLO,
who is the real winner among these all characters, i’m bit confused with the title of book and main characters, Can you please explain me something about this.
Gabriela waa a dreamer, she had a definite aim and she worked hard for achieving her aim. In the beginning of the book I felt Gabriela would have the same ending as the “shepherd” boy of “The Alchemist” had.She took all challenges in her part, but the only thing that didn’t let her achieve her destiny was her being a “human”. Humans have liablities like feeling depressed, ever demanding, never being absolutely happy, expecting more. Her ending’s what we see in “real life stories” but Paulo has always stressed upon the importance of dreams. I wonder why her dreams left her alone when she was about to fulfill them ! When she had already sacrificed her self for achieving her dreams, why didnt universe helped her in achieving her dreams?
Gabriela was a fighter, but a victim of the system too, after all her efforts she lost her dream as soon she seemed she arrived to the goal.
She was unaware that her dream already was lost, and that she was so close to be another of Igors victim, trusting him blindly. The sure thing was that nothing is sure in the glittering world, and I dont know if she was really prepared for all. But she was a fighter, maybe she could raise up again, even after that fall. I loved the fact that she used to pray, to meditate, to dress not in a vulgar way, and she dare to do things in her own way. But seemed also weak when she was afraid of losing things, and drink too much champaigne, or hung on Igor, the first man she saw alone.
I feel bit of sympathy for Gabriela, and I wonder why you named her with that dual artist name, same with the other girl, Jasmine Tiger, and Igor was also Gunther. Is about the double self, showing that personality is naturally complex, and in one person we find a wide range of other posible feelings, as if there are many?
Much love
Alexandra
Dear Paulo
I liked your books, especially the alchemist. I finished reading the winner stands alone a week ago. I always felt you were writing with a different style in each novel and I liked it, including the winner stands alone. I like Gabriela, she reminds me of myself. Her dream to become an artist, wants to demonstrate its presence would make her do anything, without losing the existence of her own, it is not easy. but I do not like Ewa, even though I know there are a lot of people like Ewa, who was hiding behind the backs of others, to hide all the fragility of her with lies and play. Thank you for sharing with us
Namaste Sr. Coelho,
I wanted to be Gabriela at one point in my life. I felt her deeply. I foresaw her tomorrow, and it wasn’t pretty however. She was the light in the book for me in many ways however. She had hope for the future, even if it was built on a hill of sand.
Gabriela is such than me. :] Quiero decir no quiero decir el exterior puntualmente, pero según una característica interior así, que mí. Y mi opinión las semejanzas interiores esto más raro en el mundo de hoy. :]
Adios<3

Young with dream to fulfil, I do not like her because I do not like her dream.
I kept my fingers crossed for her, I admire her perseverance and in my mind I finished her story with happy end, only that red carpet is not happy end for me but simple rat race.
So I see her as looser as well, but not nesessarily as she can reinvent herself and evolve from actress and red carpet to director let say like Jodie Foster
Hi Paulo….I really like this character for the simple reason that to an extent she reminds me of myself immediately after I had left drama school…I could totally identify with her dreams, her fears, her naivety, her ambition, her lack of experience and innocence…
I love the fact that she got herself to Cannes and had a go. I wonder will she persevere….

Gabriela is lucky in more ways than one.
She might not think so in the near future but she will.
I hope she keeps her integrity.
:D No make-up no life… Pigments :) colors of life ;)
I haven’t read the chapters with Gabriela yet… but she sounds like a woman I admire also.. ;o)
Life is unfair and will always be, my friend. We can only try our best and live with it. There are too many things that goes beyond our control.
