Glitter and glamour base on "The Winner Stands Alone" is about drawing attention. To get glitter and glamour a person needs to be what most of the people want them to be.
Playing the part at an event like Cannes. It is a scene where people can own the glitter and glamour or borrow it for such occasions..like the director's yaht, Gabriela's purse, dress, makeup.

Glitz,glamour and fame:
maybe the instinct to survive tells most of us to flock to these people and to copy their behaviour so that in a very primal way we secure the continuation of the human race.e.g loners die out,the group have more chance of survival.Media manipulation of the masses, who are to afaid or too brain washed to do anything else.
A friend likened outer beauty to an egg,the egg may look pritty ,be delicate and demure but you can't eat the shell.
I had a heated discussion with my father once about a certain big busted celebrity. He was being crude and also saying how beautiful he thought she was.my argument was that her entire body was fake due to insecurity she probably has about her suposed short commings.and that the only reason he thought she was so gorgeous was because he had been brain washed into believeing that that lady's fake body is normal ,beautiful, achieveable and that anyone who falls short of this deluded expectation has something wrong with them and is ugly.
I probably did get a little irate,my father needless to say went mental and then left looking a bit bemused.
I felt a deep passion to say out loud that all women are beautiful just as they are and it is amazing and beautiful that we are all different.I may sound like a raveing feminist but i'm really not.sometimes to me it seems people walk through their lives with their eyes closed and miss all the beauty around them.
love

I see after reading the novel, that glittered world as a poisonos apple given to Snow-White, in the fairy tale. Very beautiful from outside, but inside with lot of dangerous poison. You presented almost all the character involved as walking the wrong path, I wonder how you deal with, for you are too part of the same world. Am I wrong? Or the negative view of that rich fake world was created only for the best background of the thriller?
I thing the novel is really fit for a movie.
Love

Namaste Sr. Coehlo,
Glitter and glamor are pretty to look at, but who wants to live there. You can't clean house in an Armani gown. LOL That's what I felt when I read this in your book. No one cleans up after themselves.

Love to you

Thanks Mr.Paulo for the wonderful Book "WSA". One of the finest book. Money without meaning (Sharing / caring / Friends / Dear & Nears) is of no use. It's just like idle show piece. I had collection of all of your books. What about your next project, Sir ?

All the best.

Glitter and glamour sell well any paper, weekly monthly or periodical !
Harder times are more they sell, they make you dream, make you believe it's possible to achive, fill your eyes with beauty !

It might be superficial and artificial but still it makes you feel better.

It does not impress me but, as Thelma said, I like to walk by lovely yacht, feel enveloped in summer scents and expensive parfums, have espresso or ice-cream at the same spot....
and then that become part of my life too without being foolish or superficial too let envy enter in, envy spoils all,

Thank you Paulo for providing an insightful insider view of the celebrity glamorous world!

In my opinion, glitter and glamour, though they might be "pretty nice", are ultimately meaningless and I think it is sad that our society gets caught up in that, no wonder why so many people live such empty and superficial lives. People have a distorted image of what beauty is because of the glossy over-edited advertisements and want that glamour, while ignoring the simple and yet incredible beauty of nature. What do you guys think?

I absolutely agree! Imagine dancing on a boat, somewhere in the Atlantic ocean, at night, to your favorite music, under the full moon. And in the morning, taking a dive for a swim under the blazing sun! It's wonderful, so wonderful!

Thank you Thelma, I also believe that sharing experiences is the most important thing. Thank you Paulo for another beautifully written book with so much to learn. I had the opportunity to go overseas for the first time in my life this year and spent 9 days in Los Angeles. I saw many beautiful things, but I think I understand what you are saying better now after being there. And after so many years of dreaming about visiting another country I have come back with good memories, but I like my plain glitter-less life even more. I am happy to have seen it, but I don't necessarily want it, I know there are people who will feel I have no anbition to want "more", but I do want more just not the glitter adn glamour...

There is always the Dark Side of the Moon!

I like... glittering things and ... glamour, beautiful dresses, jewels, majestic houses and ..jet-aeroplanes and yachts,, I like looking at them knowing that they exist and that there are people who can afford them.. I am never .. envious of them, because I know that they cannot offer me 'peace at heart' and LOVE, if I have not yet been able to earn them.
A few years ago my family owned a hotel on the beach.. I was the same person, but I enjoyed mostly the possibilities given to me to make friends and to be near to 'happy, smiling, tourists', that their concern - for a short time - was food, swimming and sun-tan. I was enjoying that part of my life, because I had the opportunity to .. invite friends for lunch, dinner, dancing and ... sun-downers! ;] SHARING was the biggest happiness that this experience has left me as memories..
LOVE,
Thelma.

Carlitos
I think what I got out of my stay in Monaco was a defining moment , I just realised it now.It helped me to dream and do what I want. Once I know what my dream is I believe everything will fall into place.

Dear Paulo,
Your book brought back memories of the early 1960's.
The first one that comes to my mind was watching Francois Chalais with his peculiar voice interviewing the stars on the TV.He was so good. The Festival of Cannes was really a big event, part of the culture in France and cinema is still regarded as an art.
A member of my family worked at the Cap Estel a Eze sur Mer and told us a few tales about the people staying there.
The antics of a certain person from the Middle East who insisted in having 1 litre of Joy perfume - I think it was the most expensive perfume at the time - poured into the bath every day.
Fishing next to Ringo - although neither of them could understand English or French and vice-versa - communication was made in apparently a very funny way by Ringo who was quite expressive.
I remember seeing Princess Grace walking along the swimming pool in Monaco early in the morning , looking so elegant with a hat on -
Also, I saw Alexander Onassis who was still a little boy riding a little car on the harbour followed by the bodyguard.
The yacht normally used to berth on the other side of the harbor. There were a lot of activities going around it.
It was the first time I saw orchids, in this time they were considered exotic plants and were only available in places like Monte Carlo.I saw the book "Tropic of Cancer" in English.
La Societe des Bains de Mer, le Casino, etc.
The appartment I stayed was right onto the harbour. It used to be called I think avenue des Etats Unis and got changed to Av or rue John F. Kennedy after. The owners of the appartment mainly used it for the Grand Prix.
The son had a Maserati and the parents had a Mercedes with a chauffeur. It felt like "Driving with Miss Daisy"... my eyes were wide open - the country bumpkin of(34) was the "heroine" hi hi hi
I used to be fascinated by it.It helped me to dream.

Thanks for that.
Love
