At the weekend I went to the Picnic Festival in Guildford, part of their summer festival season. It used to be called the Ambient Green Picnic, a celebration of alternative culture, but the local council took offence at the word 'ambient', as it might attract the wrong people, as would the wrong type of music! The festival was a pathetic parody of what went before. No longer there were the vast range of stalls. It was not the fault of the organisers, it was the local council placing restrictions on what could take place. Allowing people to think is not to be allowed, it would be like denying the masses in Brave New World their soma. Far better to let them watch trash TV, no thinking allowed. [see Picnic Festival 2009] Several of the stalls in the healing area invoked the help of angels. Chatting with Rachel who said she worked with Sanctuary of Angels we had an interesting discussion on Paulo Coelho and angels. We were then joined by her Spanish friend who was into living food, ie food that you eat raw. She informed us that ten years ago she had walked the Road to Santiago. I recommended that she read The Pilgrimage, as Paulo Coelho had walked el Camino de Santiago ten years earlier. I suggested they both checked out the Warrior of Light by Detelina Petkova and the wonderful art by talented Russian artist Dasha Balashova.

An interesting image. I may make use of it myself. I was reminded of the wonderful artwork of the talented Russian artist Dasha Balashova. I was though baffled by an earlier mention of the use of colour! Unless my eyes are deceiving me, I see no colour? Post-modernist irony?

Then I will say that man is a funny animal , which wants some always more … I have not need to see you , i have not need you can hear in the sense of the man , because already i te feel with my spirit and the spirit can communicate (Without the words but by the perception ) it must not want too , at the risk of losing everything: these moments are precious , and must guide me , i must learn to be patient and accept this pause to me is imposed since 15 days

There are sometimes things that are allowed to living , and it is just take and enjoy these moments …

The use of colour reminds me about the italian painter Caravaggio.
Light, so as the Truth, comes out from the barkness, the big, magmatic, energy of the Universe.
And it has the shape of an Angel!

Dear Detelina Petkova,

It is image I will see in my heart when I think about The Warrier of the Lihgt.
For me it was until now mixture of Warrior and my Garding Angel projected.
I love all about it; new moon, tiny star, scales, wispery wings like clouds, circle above the head, hand and muscles with arrow….only in my mind it will be of celeste and silver colour.

I feel this drawing depicts every stage a Warrior of Light can go through. Everyday I scroll down Paulo Coelho’s blog and seeing this picture I thought WOW!. I keep wondering what the Warrior of Light is placed on? I also thought this person could be a young female or male.

So beautiful! So delicate! But the most amazing thing is the use of light and shadow – the fact that the figure has no hue, there is no color anywhere in the painting, but that the form of this figure is rendered simply by the use of light and shadow. This, I think, is what makes this painting excel: The subject is light – the Warrior of Light – and everything about this painting mirrors and therefore enhances the concept conveyed by this subject.

There is also this amazing sense of motion. Although the subject is stationary, it is not static. On the contrary, it is highly dynamic, charged with an energy that radiates out and touches the observer. When I look as this figure, I almost expect it to leap forth and fly off of the page.

This Warrior of Light is faceless. I like this. This Warrior, in potential, is each and every one of us!

Detelina Petkova, you are so talented. The picture looks so soft and smooth and velvety, it makes me want to touch it to feel the texture of it. It’s so alive. Very interesting as well, although she’s in the dark, the picture painted is not melancholic, but stable and serene. Balanced with the scales, and a warrior by the sword. The moon beneath, and the light from above, with a halo on top, and her wings spread out beautifully!
