The nostalgic theme of love and religion, embodies the concept of faith in both arenas. The idea of the maternal image of the Virgin Mary and the symbolism of water recreates re-birth of faith. Seven months ago I had a dream of St. Bernadette, I did not know who she was until I did research online, she appeared to me while I was going to cross a path of furious lions with my two children. She approached to me and told me not to be afraid to continue my path that I only need to have faith to pass through the lions and my children and I will not get hurt. I am not of a Catholic faith and do not believe in saints but in my dreams St. Bernadette seemed to overcast a glow of light a warmth that radiated but not from her but from someone beside her the Immaculate Conception. I began reading your series of books and frankly did not seemed very interested, besides my mom telling me that you are not morally correct because of your past with witchcraft, she is a Christian fanatic. I continue reading because I believe that there is always a purpose for every event even in the miniscule category. I am very interested why the idea of Saints and the Virgin Mary? Was it a reoccurring dream to you as it was to me?

Paulo tenho que agradecer-lhe por este livro maravilhoso, posso dizer com convicção, sem medo algum, que hoje tudo o que li e leio, todo o Amor que sinto ao ler um livro, iniciou-se ao ler este livro.
Este foi o 1º livro que li em minha vida, inteiro, do prefacio ao ultimo ponto final, e graças a este tenho completa afeição pela leitura.
Tenho que dizer também que já li este livro 7 vezes, e cada leitura aprendo algo diferente, cada leitura me identifico com a personalidade de um dos personagens, a cada leitura faço uma nova passagem da outra.

There are many features of this book that I love. Perhaps the most poignant feaure of this novel is the passage of ‘the other.’ I try and read this at least once every day until like the character I have it committed to memory. It’s message is one of the most powerful I have ever read, the question I pose is that is this a traditional fable or is it something created from the mind of Mr Coelho?

On the narrative structure I must compliment the author on his use of religion as a standard theme that binds the actions of the characters. Usually I find religion in literature a huge turn off but its use in this novel isn’t imparted in a preaching sense and instead merely serves to highlight the relationship between the individual, men and women and the spiritualist endeavours that draw so many people to the work of Pablo. At no point did I feel I was trying to be converted and found myself enjoying its inclusion immensely.

I really love this book because I did experience the same thing as what Pilar do. I have been in love with a seminarian.. but as I thought of the fact that he knew GOD and entered the seminary before we met, I broke him up.. but we’re still good friends til now and our inspiration is this book.. keep up the great work Mr. Coelho…

paulo sir,
I am 17 years old.3 months back,whenever my friend used to tell me about reading a book I used to laugh .However accidentally I started reading ‘the alchemist’ and naturally as soon as i completed reading it ,I was addicted to novels.
today I have read read novels(the alchemist ,the zahir, inspirations, and stars shine down by sidney sheldon ).

Apenas empecé a leer este libro, y es genial la forma en que abarca las situaciones, me agrada pork es una realidad plasmada lástima k muchas personas se reusan a aceptar la verdad deluniverso como tal, a despedirse de “el otro” para ser kien realmente kieren ser, mil gracias por estas gotas de sabiduría. dios lo bendiga.

I LOVE this book, the way its written, the words, story and meaning – its just so very beautiful. Now, its years ago i read it, and becouse it moved me so much, i cant yet read it again. But i still remember it deep, it moved me, made me cry, smile and enjoy. Like some other here, it felt like it was me you were writing for; that you could see deep in my heart, and most of all that you know what love is all about. To put words on so many feelings is a talant and you do it brilliant!
Thank you for beeing you, for all your beautiful storys, especially this one. I love you !!

querido paulo… ufff sabe este libro me enseño como ud dice que la primera leccion del amor, es esperar…!!!este libro cada vez que lo leo, me hace sentir como si yo fuera pilar…jaja que cosas no?? sabe eso sucede porque ud es un buenisimo escritor….ya se!! lo habrá escuchado y leido miles de veces…pero es la primera ves que lo lee de mi persona…XD jeje lo leera varias veces mas…espero que siga escribiendo…que modales los mios, soy stephanie bracho, y le escribo desde paraguay., una cosita mas, aqui es muy admirado por la sutil forma de presentar a la sociedad o los temas de esta pero con un toque mistico…. me despido…bendiciones

I enjoyed this book very much and it really caused me to wonder…..

Regarding Woman as God, believing that Mary was the Immaculate Conception and that she was sinless throughout her human life – how could any of this be achieved by mortal man? The course of Mary’s life suggests that she was more than human. The apparitions that have occurred over time seem to reenforce the divine nature of Mary. Raised as a cradle Catholic, for me it would seem sacrilegious to put Mary on a plane with God yet logically many of the pieces seem to fall in to place. Thanks for raising the questions.

con este libro no pude para de leer, toco mi tiempo se paralizo hasta finalizarlo, me transporto a un mundo donde dos personas viven un amor amgico, incondicional en el tiempo…. solo me pone triste saber que llege al final

The book tell us a story from the point of view of a woman; and everything Pilar says is like if a woman is saying it, and the unsteadiness when she talks. I’t unbelievable (or really believable) eventhough it’s written by a man. I like it!!!!
